I walked down the road after leaving mine and Sirius's house. Everything I will need is already packed. I knew I might never see that house again where Sirius and I lived for the little time we had together. "Be strong, Evanora." A voice echoed through my head as a single tear rolled down my cheek. I stepped away from the place and made my way to 4 Privet Drive. The cold wind sweeps around my face. I pick up the pace as I can see Harry's house from here. It was 45 minutes past the sunset when I arrived at 4 Privet Drive. I know I'm definitely early, as the meeting time was an hour after dark, but I was sure Harry wouldn't mind and I didn't want to stay home and wait. I knocked on the door. "It's Eva. Can I come in? It's really cold out here," I said and the door swung open revealing a very happy Harry.
"Eva!" He said, holding his arms out for me to run into.
"I missed you," I muttered into his shoulder.
"It's only been a week," he said, chuckling softly.
"A rough one at that. Been putting Padfoot's stuff in a vault." I said, pulling away. He nodded slowly, understanding. I looked around at the empty house. The house was empty and cleared of furniture, so I set my bag down on the stairs. "So this is where you grew up?" I said, looking around at the empty rooms and the wallpaper.
"Yeah," he said while standing in the hallway. I froze as I saw a door slightly ajar at the cupboard under the stairs.
"That's it isn't it?" I say softly. I slowly walk towards it. "Do you mind?" I asked, pointing my thumb at the cupboard, not sure if he didn't care or didn't want me intruding on his personal memories. His answer seemed like both.
"Uhm, yeah, go ahead," he said, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head with one hand and gesturing towards it with another. I peeked my head inside and turned on the light. I stepped inside. It's very small, with a mattress on the floor and little figurines on the shelves everywhere. So this is what it was like for ten years, I thought. I could understand the personal connection that he had to this place and why he would feel uncomfortable with me entering it. It had always been just him and this little closet space. I absorbed every detail. The bottom of the stairs, cords running through the walls, the empty shelves with little knight figurines.
"Your not going to leave these here are you? These little toys?" I ask from inside the cupboard.
"I don't see why I would need them," he says, his voice coming from in the hall still. Memories, I think to myself before quickly stuffing one in my pocket.
"Saw that," Harry says from behind me. I jump and turn to find him smiling at me.
"Goddammit Harry, why do you have to be so sneaky," I say, guiltily stuffing my hand back in my pocket to take out the little knight. He laughs.
"You can keep it, I know you like little things like that for memories sake. It's just really funny catching you when you're being mischevious," he says grinning. I smile and roll my eyes and give him a playful shove, my cheeks slightly darkening as I'm caught in the act. He was right, I did like keeping little things as tokens of my memory. We are still slightly smiling when we lean closer to each other, only centimeters away. I can feel his warm breath on my cheeks, we can smell each other's resemblance to the Amortentia love potion. My eyes flutter closed as I pull the light switch off. Soon, a funny rumbling noise snaps both of us out of our trance. My head shoots toward the door, my long, grown-out sidebangs hitting the side of my face. They aren't long enough to fit in my high ponytail.
Harry opened the door and Hagrid and Ron were on the other side. Ron and Harry hugged.
"Hello, Harry! You're looking fit!" Hagrid says happily.
