David Yates Interview Clip.
"Eva was always in tune with her character. She even got us all to call her Eva, because that is what the characters in the books nicknamed her, and her middle name is Evangeline. That was how much she enjoyed playing her character," he said, looking impressed as memories glistened in his eyes.
"I remember when the cast first met, she was such a shy, small little girl. Rupert ended up being the one to coax her out of her shell --- they were always laughing, and that was how she calmed her nerves. Eva got along with the cast like they were in the books at all times," he added.
In another interview sometime during the making of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the young actress J. Evangeline Ross stated, "Emma is like Hermione, but more social and fun. Dan is... not like Harry. . . at all," she says. "And Rupert is exactly Ron."
"In what way would you say you relate to your character Evanora?"
"I feel like she's me but in like--- another dimension or something. I have her personality, except I, obviously, was raised by muggle parents who are good-- so I was, obviously, not ever trying to fit in with dark wizards as well as light wizards . . . --- wait, is that a thing? No? Oh-- well-- you know what I mean," she finished quickly.
The cast on how their characters and themselves evolved during the Goblet of Fire:
"I have so much to say about how my character has evolved, so i'll try to keep it short --" she began. Her dark, waved hair curled at the tips of her hair as it had always throughout the films.
"Because of Harry's immediate forgiveness of her in the third book/films/whatever, she really and truly becomes bonded with her friends, and because of her father and friends both being so immensely against Dark Forces, she choses to stay fighting on that side. Now that she truly knows that Sirius is not a murderer, and that Harry didn't have it in him to kill anyone [even to avenge his parents,] she finally stays true to her heart in being good. Only Hermione, Ron, and Harry especially, are undoubtably positive that she never had it in her to be bad. She only doubted her own goodness because of her father and influences around her seemed to be pushing her to make that choice. So in the Goblet of Fire, you see a huge change in her emotional habits, she is at an immediate mental stability, now finally having a father, which was a desire she had for as long as she could remember. The bond between Harry and Evanora becomes stronger throughout the year as Harry regards her as his God-Sister, much to her disappointment and elation at the same time. Hermione and Evanora become close best friends, the typical teenage girl thing that share secrets and whatever, and at this point, Emma and I are such close friends it is almost not even acting anymore," she says delightedly. "Evanora is becoming less of a doubtful child of no purpose to maturing into a woman. Her transformation, which is not nearly as spectacular as Hermione's, is special for her because she loves the dancing, and her dress for the Yule Ball was a gift from Sirius. Not only that, but her first kiss is stolen by Dean Thomas, which didn't even end up in the films which still bothers me because I was so nervous for nothing," she says remembering the horror during the year. "Anyways, it is lightly implied that the kiss was nothing special, which is hugely symbolic of her denial of her true feelings -- [which she has yet to realize until the next movie, I think,] still lie in Harry's possession from the previous year. These feelings remained hidden from herself because of the third book where they began and were put to a stop because she is conflicted and has torn herself in her mind between Harry and Sirius, both of whom she no longer has full trust in regardless of the fact that her loyalty lies within both of them. Sirius may have been a murderer, and sadly Eva had only hopes that he was actually innocent. After Harry found out that Sirius supposedly betrayed his parents and he threatened to kill him, she automatically disconnected herself from him even though they remained within distance and good friends. Anyways, apparently it is going to get more complicated in the next films, and it will be a huge challenge for me, but i'm so excited. I am going to contribute immensely to the films this year -- I'm so excited for the challenge, may be a bit awkward considering the fact that cameras are going to be pointed at our faces as I stare lovingly at Dan -- oh my god, it's really hard for me to say it like that," she told the reporter and began laughing at herself.
