Mia could not believe what just happened to her. She had never been so humiliated in her life. The guy she liked completely dissed her. This had never happened to her before and she didn't know how to take it. The one person she wanted to call was the last person she should call. Tia.

"Man. What do I do? No one would understand." She said through her salty tears.

The tears just would not stop falling.

Every time she wiped a tear away, ten more could come out. She walked down the street and did not care where she was walking. She just wanted to get away from Elliot's house. As she was walking, she stumbled onto a park. For some odd reason, this park looked familiar. Something about this park felt like she had been here before. She walked up to the park and pushed the fence open. She slipped her feet out of the heels and put her feet in the cold squishy sand. It felt so good on her feet. It reminded her of being a kid again and back when she didn't have to care about how she ate or who she talked to. She was just plain Mia. Mia Santos.

That's when it struck her. The memory.

She used to come to this park when her mom was still a 'mom' to her. It was the summer before she became rich and met Tia.

*Flashback*

"Mommy! Watch me go down the slide" Mia yelled to her mom.

"I'm watching baby! Aww look at you go! That's my girl!" Smiled Mia's mom as she picked up Mia from the bottom of the slide.

She tickled Mia and kissed her little fingers. She loved seeing Mia's smile. It reminded her of innocence and how much she loved her little girl. She never wanted to see that smile disappear from Mia's face. As she played with Mia in her arms, Mia's mom's phone rang. She put Mia down and let her know she would be right back.

Mia watched her mom walk to the fence and talk on the phone. Mia walked over to the jungle gym and tried swinging on the monkey bars. She got halfway, but couldn't make it to the end. Mia lost her grip trying to grab the next bar and fell on the ground. Right when she felt the sting from falling and wanted to cry, someone pushed a flower in her face.

"Don't cry. Here's a flower. My daddy says flowers make girls happy." Said the little boy.

Mia looked at him curiously and then took the flower. She smelled it and smiled.

"It smells like Mommy. Thank you" Mia said to the little boy.

The little boy's face got all red and he put his hands behind his back. He started kicking the dirt.

"It's nothing. My name is Elliott." Elliot said softly.

"Hi Elliott. My name's Mia. " Mia said sweetly and put out her hand.

Elliott looked at her hand and shook it. He relaxed and smiled at her.

"Want to be friends?" asked Elliott.

Before Mia could answer, Mia's mom hung up the phone and called Mia to her. By the look of her face, Mia could tell her mom was not happy. She turned to Elliott and waved goodbye and ran over to her mom. Her mom picked her up and they walked out the park.

                                                                *Back to the Present*

Thinking back on that memory, she realized she never answered his question. She walked over to the monkey bars feeling the sand beneath her feet. She sat on the ground and looked up to the sky. Mia let the sun hit her tear-dried face for awhile.

"Yes, Elliott. I would love to be friends. "
