When Mia got home from the Soup Kitchen, she found her mom making out with some guy on the couch.
"Eww! Mom!" she yelled while covering her face.
Her mom backed away from the dark haired guy and blushed. She looked at Mia and fixed her clothes.
"Oh darling! You're home!"
Mia rolled her eyes. She knew that voice. That was the 'pretend to be a perfect mother' voice. She couldn't stand when her mother did that. She hasn't taken care of her since her mom and dad got a divorce.
"Mom, drop the act!" Mia yelled at her mother.
Her mom glared at her and then straightened her face. She smiled and replied, "What act dear?"
"This! You don't care about me! Stop trying to act like the mom you're not!" Mia snarled and ran up the stairs to her room.
She slammed her door and threw her things on the floor. She sat on her bed and looked out the window.
"Why can't things just go back to the way things were? When we weren't rich... When my parents were together and happy.. When my mom cared about me... When.. When.. When Elliott and I were at the park as kiddies.. " Mia asked herself.
Before she knew it, tears were rolling down her face. She sat there on her bed crying and just thinking about all the 'What ifs'.
"I really wish I had someone to talk to about this. I am tired of just bottling up all my problems." Mia cried out loud.
"Would Elliott help?" she wondered.
Mia got up and closed her blinds. At the moment she didn't care how she looked. She put on her black sweatpants and a blue tank top. She redid her bun and wiped her eyes. She grabbed her wallet and keyss. She ran down the stairs, ignoring her mom on the couch, and ran out the door. She jumped in her car and drove off to Elliott's house.

She sat in her car for 10 minutes trying to figure out what to say when she went to his front door. She looked in her mirror and saw her reflection.
"I look horrible! Why did I leave the house looking like this?!" she screamed at herself.
Her eyes are puffy and her cheeks were stained with mascara. She tried rubbing at the mascara, but it made her cheeks red and irritated. She screamed of frustration. She stopped and took a deep breath. She took her keys out of the ignition and grabbed her wallet from the chair next to her. She got out the car and walked over to Elliott's front door. She took a deep breath and knocked on his door. She waited patiently until she heard footsteps coming near the door. The door swung open and it was Elliott's mom.
"Oh hi dear!" She smiled before realizing Mia's face. Elliott's mother smile instantly went into a frown when she saw Mia's appearance.
"Oh honey! Are you alright?" she asked.
Mia could tell his mother was really concerned. It just made her think of her mother who didn't even care about her. It brought back the tears one by one. Elliott's mom pulled Mia into her arms and patted her back.
"There there honey. Whatever it is that is bothering you, it will be alright." She said soothingly.
Elliott's mom closed the door and took Mia into the living room. She put Mia on the couch and went to go make some hot chocolate and sugar cookies. When they were done, she put some cookies on a plate and poured the hot chocolate in a mug. She put the plate and mug on a tray for Mia. She walked over to Mia to see Mia hunched over trying not to cry.
"Oh sweetheart, in this house you can cry all you want. Okay? No one is stopping you." she assured Mia.
She put down the cookies in front of Mia and handed Mia the hot chocolate. She took a tissue from the tissue box and wiped the mascara from Mia's eyes.
"Thank you for everything. You are so kind. Elliott is lucky to have you as a mom." Mia said through her tears as she drank her hot chocolate.
She noticed her hands were shaky as she drank it so she put it down. Elliot's mom smiled and simply said, "I'm sure your mom would do the same thing. It's nothing really. " She kept patting Mia's back and held her in her arms.
As she cried in her arms. she heard the front door opening. She looked up to see Elliott walking in. When Elliot saw her, he looked shocked.
"What are you doing here?"
