Chapter Twenty-Three | Night Intruders

I thought that I was going to fall asleep easily, but I dead wrong. I just kept thinking. Thinking about how much of a horrible person I am. I killed someone.

It doesn't matter if they tried to kill me first. I could've found another way to resolve things. I don't want to fall asleep. If I do, maybe Denise will come back somehow, and get her revenge.

I need to stay awake, my life depends on it.

"Where's Catherine?" A shaky voice echoes in the living room.

I hide under my blanket, once I hear my bedroom door open. I try not to breathe, to not let my chest and stomach fall and sink whenever I would breathe.

The mysterious person lifts my blanket, and I pretend to be in a deep sleep.

"You're a monster. You sleep peacefully, even after what you did? You're lucky you're sleeping now. I'll get you once you're... conscious."

The person walks out of the room.

I guess staying awake was a bad idea, after all.

I hear someone walking closer to my bedroom. I jump up, and instantly look for something in the room to defend myself with.

I search under the bed, frantically looking and making a ton of noise. I find a long blade, about the size of my forearm, and grab it.

I don't even have time to admire it before the door swings open. I instantly swing the blade at the person, but they instantly grab the blade from my hand, twist my hand, and tackle me onto the ground.

"Ow!" I scream.

Instantly I realized only one person I knew could use this kind of combat to defend themselves.

"Raveleen?" I asked.

"Yes, Catherine?" She asked.

"Can you let go of my arm? You're twisting it really hard."

"Yeah," she said, getting up.

"Catherine, what were you doing trying to brandish a large weapon like that at me? Don't you have any knowledge of the fact that I could possibly hurt you, considering my level of training, and your lack on how to use a weapon properly?" Raveleen asked.

"Sorry. I thought that maybe you were someone else." I apologized.

"You mean like that creep that came into your room? Don't worry, I already took care of them outside." Raveleen smirked.

"Okay, then..." I trailed off.

"Go to sleep, Catherine. You have to wake up tomorrow for school." Raveleen commanded.

"I don't want to go to school tomorrow."

"Come on. You already have an absence with no excuse. You wouldn't want to get those piled up, would you?"

"Fine," I said, slowly falling asleep.

I was sleeping surprisingly peacefully, when Raveleen "gently" woke me up.

"Catherine, wake up!" Raveleen yelled.

"Okay, okay, I'm up..." I slowly trailed off when I noticed a knife was across my neck.

"Is this how you wake up Bailey?" I asked.

"No. But since you think you're such a tough guy or whatever, I didn't think you would mind this. So get up." Raveleen smirked.

Raveleen walked out of the room with the knife, and that's when I got up.

I was rushing to get to first period, when I recognized my mood of peace. It felt so much better not having to worry about some crazy girl staring at me.

I walked in and sat down at my seat.

"Is everyone here? Okay. Hello, class, it's time for your chapter Chemistry test. Good luck. If you didn't study, you're going to need it." Mr. Johnson said and passed out the tests.

"When did he announce that there was going to be a test?" I whispered to Raveleen.

"When you were going to the 'restroom.'" Raveleen whispered back.

"Did you study?" I whispered.

"Of course I did. I don't want to tank my grade." Raveleen whispered, and started working on the test.

Well, I certainly failed this test.

~•~

After pretty failing a test and attending all of my other classes, I started to walk home, by myself.

"Wait!" Bailey shouted.

I looked behind me, and saw that over energetic, turquoise hair-colored girl.

"Where's Rave?" I asked.

"She had a task to do. She won't be home till later." Bailey squeaked out.

"Okay."

I wonder what 'task' Raveleen could be doing right now...

Shortly after we got home, Raveleen walked through the door.

"Where have you been?" I asked Raveleen.

"I had to take care of somebody. They're gone now, but-"

Raveleen just froze in place and stopped talking.

"Uh, Raveleen? What's going on?"

"Catherine, don't move. Don't breathe, don't talk, don't flinch." Raveleen commanded.

"I don't get it. What's wrong, Raveleen?" Bailey asked.

"Don't move, Bailey." Raveleen said with a shaky voice.

Bailey flinched slightly to turn her head.

"I said, don't move!" Raveleen yelled.

Bailey slowly reached for the knife on the table, but something, or someone, punched the back of her head and Bailey fell face first to the floor.

"Oh, now you're really gonna get it." Raveleen said, pulling a large knife out of a blue vase.

She really has weapons stashed everywhere, I thought.

"What's going on?" I said, turning around.

My eyes didn't even get to look at the intruder for a second, when an object was swung at my face, hitting me.

I fell to the ground on my back, my eyes still open.

I saw the intruder jump out of the window and right after I saw that, my eyes closed and all I saw was black.

I heard Bailey groan and get up from the ground.

"Bailey! Are you okay?" Raveleen asked.

"Yeah, I'm okay, but what about Catherine-" Bailey stopped talking.

Right after I heard Bailey scream bloody murder.

"There's so much blood gushing from her head! Raveleen, what do we do?"

That was all I heard before I lost conciousness.
