Chapter 11: Oliphant’s and an Unpleasant Surprise

We washed our bowls, and pot in the river that was running beside our small camp, and then got ready to set out again.

Gollum was making sure to stay away from me, and Fred was chuckling.

‘Alright. I take it back. You are just as evil as Sauron!’ – Fred said.

‘I am not!’ – I told him a little haughtily.

‘Torturing a pathetic creature isn’t evil?’ – Fred said laughing.

‘It was for his own good!’ – I snapped back. Fred was not going to make me feet guilty for trying to get Gollum to eat.

Suddenly I heard a sound, like a deep rumble. I got to my feet and looked down into the valley on the other side of the hill.

What appeared to be large elephants with sharpened tusks were walking through the valley, with people dressed all in black riding on their backs.

I put the fire out, and kicked the rocks that had been around the fire away, before grabbing Sméagol, Sam and Frodo, and pulling them to the ground.

“Stay down if you know what’s good for you!” – I hissed, rolling to the edge of the hill for a better view.

Suddenly hooded people dove out of the shadows, and started to fire arrows at the people on the Oliphant’s. They obviously weren’t wearing armor, because they were dropping like flies.

I rolled back to where the others were waiting.

“Let’s go!” – I whispered to the others, motioning for them to roll down the other side of the hill.

Suddenly and arrow flew over my head, and buried it’s self in the tree behind me.

I pulled my shield off my shoulders, and put it over the Hobbits, and Sméagol to protect them.

I got to my feet drawing my sword, and blocked the next arrow that flew at me. It was impressive to me any way.

Suddenly though, a whole bunch of people in dark green hoods surrounded me – all with arrows pointed at my head.

‘Great!’ – I thought, ‘You think of any escape routes, Fred?’

‘Nope. You are screwed!’ – Fred told me cheerfully.

‘Thanks.’ – I told it sarcastically, before turning to face the situation at hand.

A man walked out from behind the others, and dropped his hood. He had reddish hair, that was wavy and reached to his shoulders. His face was dirty, stubble was growing on his cheeks, and he did not look impressed. It was Faramir, Boromir’s younger brother.
