Chapter 7

Aurora's POV

The sound of my alarm clock reverberated through my brain at 6am on the dot. I gradually dragged myself out of my bed as I started thinking about the day ahead. It was finally Friday, and my first week at this new school was almost over. It had been a couple days since my kiss with John, but we had been texting nonstop since then.

Today was a new day to start fresh, and really think about where things were headed with John. On one hand, I really like him. On the other, I want to have friends, and dating John would only complicate things further.

The early morning flew by quickly, and before I knew it, I was heading out the door to begin my walk to school. A few blocks in, I heard a car pull up beside me.

"Need a ride?" a friendly voice smirked.

I smiled and turned slowly, nodding my head as I opened the passenger door to John's truck.

My morning classes were done in a blur, leaving me to fend the masses on my way to the cafeteria. The whole week Emily had found me in the crowd, and today was no exception.

Once inside, we made our way to our table like always. The whole group was buzzing about something that I couldn't quite make out. I heard a few words like party and Jack's house. Sounded like everyone was going to have fun tonight. Too bad I would be home with my Netflix and ice cream. I sat down next to John, turning to say hi. After we had talked for a minute, he asked me if I was going to the party tonight.

"I didn't know there was going to be one tonight," I replied.

"I could take you if you wanted to go with me," John said smiling.

"Sure, why not?" I laughed.

"Pick you up at 8."

John's POV
I was so excited when she said she would go with me to the party. I knew it was going to be a rager, Jack's parties always were. I turned in time to hear Emily exclaim, "You're going?" to Aurora. She smiled and nodded as Emily continued, "We can get ready together! Can we all meet at your house?"
"Of course!" Aurora replied.
Then Emily turned to me and smiled, "You wouldn't mind taking all of us then, right John?"
I rolled my eyes and agreed, looking forward to tonight slightly less.

Aurora's POV
So Emily was going to help me get ready?? That was quite unexpected. I guess I should be excited. I sighed and finished my lunch, listening to the table rambling on about what kind of booze to buy. I was no stranger to these types of parties, seeing as I had been to my fair share in the previous towns I'd lived in. I just hoped this one would be a lot better knowing that John was going to be there.

The rest of the school day went by slowly, but when the last period bell rang, I could hear cheers throughout the school.
In the parking lot, John motioned me over to his car and offered me yet another ride. I figured it wasn't that much a hassle so I hopped in.
Four hours later
The doorbell rang at around 6, followed by several impatient knocks as I ran down the stairs. I opened the door to come face to face with Emily, Rhodelle, and Paige.
"Come on in!"
Two hours and one makeover later, I was ready. The girls had straightened my unruly hair, applied smokey eyeshadow, and dressed me in skinny jeans and a crop top. I turned to the mirror and gasped! I looked like a completely different person. My phone pinged and I looked down at the message.
John:
You girls ready to go?
I replied:
Be out in a sec!
We all stumbled down the stairs and ran out the front door. My parents were going to be out late at an event for my dad, the new mayor, so they didn't know I was going to the party. My brothers were somewhere in the house, holed up playing videos games so I assumed they wouldn't even notice I was gone. We all clamored into John's truck and yelled along to the song on the radio the whole way there. I couldn't help but notice Emily trying to get friendly with John up in the front seat after she called shotgun earlier. This was going to be a long night...

A few minutes later, we pulled up to a huge mansion in a wealthy neighborhood. Music was blaring from the house and people were stumbling around outside, already drunk. John parked the car and we all walked up the tall steps and into the chaos.
"John, my man," yelled one guy to our right.
"Getting all the ladies," stated another as he clapped John on the back. Numerous comments were thrown our way as we walked deeper and deeper into the party. Out of nowhere, I felt breathing on my neck. A tall, muscular man decided to start whispering disgusting things in my ear as he started to feel me up. Disgusting! John didn't even notice I was in distress, as he was in his element, talking to everyone here. I pushed away from the man, deciding to loosen up with a drink. Still, I could feel a pair of eyes watching me. While at the drink table, two girls walked up chatting. All alone, I introduced myself and started talking to them for a while. The girls introduced themselves as Claire and Scarlett. Claire was a tall, leggy blonde who looked like a model, similar to Emily. Scarlett was quite the opposite, short, with long brown hair with striking blue eyes. I liked these girls and could see myself being friends with them. Maybe I don't need Emily...

Much later on, I had one too many drinks and was starting to feel the effects. A guy walked up to me where I was chatting to Claire and Scarlett and asked if we would do body shots. Slightly dizzy, we all agreed. After multiple guys had walked up and taken a shot, I heard a familiar voice say "My turn." I grinned and turned to John as he took the shot and poured it on my stomach. He quickly sucked it up and grabbed the lime as everyone chanted.
"That was water," he whispered in my ear, winking.
I rolled my eyes and hopped off the table, straightening my clothes. I waved to my new friends and walked off with John as he held my hand. We walked out to the backyard pool and talked for a bit. Then John picked me up, starting yelling and ran to the pool. He dumped me in the icy water and jumped in after. Soon after the pool was packed with people, screaming and laughing at the night.
