The picture above is John shirtless... can I get a hello?

John's POV

The first day of school. The best and worst day of the year. Waking up at six am, I struggle to stay awake. As the alarm beeped on the dot, I hit the snooze a few times before I could manage to roll out of bed. I yanked a shirt off a hanger in the closet and slipped it over my head before combing my hands through my hair. A quick glance in the mirror, and then I was off to grab breakfast. I poured a bowl of cereal and plopped on the couch for the morning news. Rain later on in the week. How interesting. Small towns rarely had news, and today was no exception. Besides the fair coming to town, there was nothing to note. Right as I was about to click off the TV, a flash of Aurora caught my eye.
It was a segment on the new mayor, Mayor Thompson, his wife Sarah, and children Aurora, Nick and James. Aurora's dad was the new mayor!? This could be bad...

The drive to school was dreadful. As I pulled my truck into the lot, I grimaced at the thought of my day ahead. Another blur of first day classes and Emily following him around. Better to just get it over with I guess.
I hopped down from my truck and slid my backpack onto my back and strode to the front door. On the way, many people called out "Hey John!" But their faces were just a blur. I glanced at my schedule and headed to first period Spanish. Wow, I sound like a dick. It's just the first day, I'm too tired to remember anything.
By lunch, I had no classes with Aurora but Emily had managed to run into me between each one. It was getting harder to avoid her and I knew I had to talk to her soon. As I waited in the lunch room, the doors busted open and in strode Emily with Aurora and the other girls on her arms. All eyes turned in their direction, and various nods of approval were muttered. Aurora looked beautiful, as usual, with her hair swept up in a neat little bun. Emily's teeth dazzled once her eyes caught mine. She thought I was staring at her, but she didn't realize that I was really looking at Aurora.
Emily dragged her clique over and started chatting with my friends. I noticed Aurora glancing at me, then looking away quickly. I needed to talk to her, but could never manage to get her alone. Maybe I could talk to her tonight, I mean she does live next door.

Aurora's POV
My first day was exhausting. I'm not just saying that.
I screamed internally as my alarm went off at six in the morning. All of a sudden my mom burst through the door looking worried, "what's wrong?" She asked.
"Sorry mom! I'm fine, just didn't get much sleep last night." I replied.
"Okay honey, start getting ready," my mom whispered as she closed the door and walked back downstairs. Guess that scream wasn't internal.
The next thing I knew I was staring at my half filled closet. After digging through some moving boxes, I was finally dressed thirty minutes later. I chose a simple white babydoll blouse paired with light wash denim shorts and my lucky red converse. As soon as I approached my reflection in the bathroom mirror, I groaned. This was going to take a while...

Another half an hour later, I was fresh faced, heading downstairs. I grabbed a quick breakfast and started walking to school.

Once I arrived, I glanced around nervously. A sea of unfamiliar faces rushed around me, adding to the existing butterflies in my stomach. I slowly closed my eyes and hear a squeal of delight.
"Ror!!!! So good to see you! Are you ready for your first day?" Emily asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied when we walked up the steps to the front door. What is with her and this new nickname?

Throughout the day, I kept glancing around my classes, looking for John who was nowhere to be found. A friendly face would be nice right about now. Thankfully none of my teachers had made me stand up and give the horrid new student introduction, so I had gone through most of my classes unnoticed. By lunch, I was beginning to relax and realize this might not be so hard. Emily and the girls had caught up to me and practically dragged me through the doors to the cafeteria.
"We need to get to our prime table," explained Rhodelle, one of Emily's croonies.
"Ok-kay," I stammered as we rushed in the direction of a table of attractive, muscular boys. As I scanned their faces, none were familiar until my gaze met a pair of piercing blue eyes. John.
"Gentlemen," greeted Emily, "You don't mind if we join you, do you?"
Many of the boys jostled to make room, and a few pulled up chairs. I ended up seated right next to, you guessed it, John.
"We need to talk," he stated to me.
"Tonight," I replied. He simply nodded and turned away. Tonight then. What did he so desperately need to talk to me about?

When I asked Emily to give me a ride home after school, she seemed overjoyed to oblige. I knew she was trying to win back John, and I was just going to let whatever happened play out. I hopped in shotgun as she peeled her BMW out of a prime front spot.
"Perks of being rich!" She exclaimed. Interesting, I thought to myself.
