September 12th, the second Monday of our first semester, started unexpectedly bright to me. It was an unusual feeling that motivated me to go to school. I realized I was excited when I found myself hurrying up for school even when it was still too early, and I didn’t exactly figure out why. I cooked bacon for breakfast so mom didn’t need to cook for herself anymore. It was like forty five minutes before I usually wake up, and I didn’t take a single delay on my way. I rushed down to the apartment garage and got in the car. I didn’t stop for anything and drove all the way. I enjoyed the wind that brushed my hair like a tail on my head.
After I drove a few blocks, I saw a Nick, walking to the bus stop, so I rushed the car to overtake him. I stopped just when I got beside him. He seemed to have noticed the car and stopped walking.
“Need a ride, stranger?” I greeted.
“So, are you like stalking me now and giving me rides?” he kidded, and we both laughed.
“Yes, handsome.” I rode with his jokes. “Come on and cut class! Let’s go to the bar and get drunk!”
He shoved a chuckle as he reached to open the door. He got in, and I knew he’d ask, “Why are you early?”
“I’ve got some stuff to do.” Of course, that was a lie, but I remained calm.
“Really? What’s that?” I didn’t really expect him to give a follow-up question, but I just went with it.
“I’ve got to get the baby doll ready.” I said as I drove the car again. “Thanks for helping me by the way.”
By the way, Nick gave me back the baby doll the day before that, and he taught me what to do, so I was just doing as he advised. We were supposed to pass it that day, so I placed it at the trunk before I slept the night before.
“I thought you were supposed to pass it today.” He said because he saw that I didn’t have the doll with me.
“It’s in the trunk, Nick.”
“Now, that’s a way to take care of a baby.” He chuckled.
“At least I don’t open them and take off their batteries.”
“True. True.”
Nick and I made use of casual and nonsense conversations to pass the time ‘til we got to Neptune High. We did the usual: parked, went in, and meddle with our lockers.
“I’m gonna go on my locker and straight to class.” He said as I walked to my locker.
“Okay. See you at lunch!” I said, and he went on away.
I fixed my stuff and hid the baby doll in my locker. I was just about to close my locker and leave when a guy purposely snuck beside me and laid his back on the locker next to me. I looked and saw that it was Harvey. He seemed to be normal again, there to tease me with his annoying expressions. Somehow, that ruined my morning.
“What’s up, beautiful?” he kidded in a charming way.
I slammed my locker close and walked away from him, but he followed. I didn’t know what he needed, but I was really pissed.
