Sharon Stone… named after a famous actress from the 90’s. Her dad was the one to come up with the name because he was a big fan of the actress. Sharon’s dad never told his wife about his condition because he loved her too much, in fear of letting her go. He didn’t want any forms of concerns or arguments about it, so kept it a secret. He knew it was selfish of him, but it couldn’t have been helped.
Sharon’s dad anticipated his death with his health growing weaker and weaker by the day. He knew that his wife would know sooner or later, but it was already too late. She was already pregnant with Sharon. He knew it wasn’t right. He should have told her before they decided to make an offspring, but he kept it so long that it was too hard to reveal.
They feared that Sharon, their daughter, would inherit the same condition as her father. Unfortunately, she did. There wasn’t anyone else blamed but her dad.
“You could have told me earlier! We could’ve just adopted instead of having a child with cancer like yours! Why didn’t you think of that?”
“I didn’t know how to put it.” He said with regret in his face. “You looked so happy everyday. I didn’t want to ruin that.”
“I’m your wife! We were supposed to go through this together! We should be a team! How could you have kept this from me?”
“I’m really sorry.” They both started crying… for their daughter’s sake… for Sharon’s sake. “I wish I hadn’t dragged our daughter into this.”
Sharon grew with her condition. Her parents kept taking her to treatments every now and then. They slowed down the tumor’s growth, but it didn’t really save her. Being always in the hospital, Sharon never grew to have any friends. She never knew what friends were for. All she had was her mother and father.
Her dad’s condition grew worse and worse until he couldn’t work anymore. He refused to respond to his treatments. He wanted all their money and saving to be spent for Sharon’s sake. They really didn’t have much money to begin with, with the mother the only one working. Her dad felt useless after falling prey to the effects of cancer. He was barely able to move or walk. He always felt weak, and his health was going down. He felt like he was a burden. He didn’t think there was any more reason for him to live.
Sharon’s dad died when she was seven. She didn’t really take that well. With that, Sharon’s childhood was completely ruined. Sharon grew, went to middle school and the rest. She didn’t have much friends. Her very few friends weren’t really much reliable. They backstabbed Sharon and left her alone. People always see her to be weird and a lonely girl. No one really liked her nor felt sorry for her. With that, bullies always found her as an interesting target. They’d always bully Sharon to the point that she’d cry. She cried a lot. She hid in bathrooms and cried, skipped classes just to let out her emotional outburst. With her condition and social standing in school, she didn’t really see the point of going to school. She skipped a lot of classes even when the doctor said it was best if she lived normally. She didn’t. She just sat around and cried in front of her dad’s grave.
“Why am I supposed to go through this?” she’d always ask. “What did I ever do to have deserved this?”
Even when her hope fades a lot, she believes that maybe one day, everything will be all right.
