I couldn’t really remember anything. I didn’t even know if I had a dream or whatever. All I knew is when I started blinking awake was it wasn’t such a good thing to wake up. The first thing I saw was a white ceiling fan torqueing. It wasn’t long ‘til I realized I was home. When I tried to get up, I started to hear people move around.
“Liyah, how are you? You scared the hell out of us all.” It was mom. She walked to me and sat beside because I was laying on the couch. I tried to get up, and mom helped me.
“I just got a little tired.” I shook my head and saw Harvey, Laura, dad, and Red that were sitting on the other couches in our living room. “Dad, you and Red really didn’t have to come.”
“Hey, your mom was like going crazy when she called me. I couldn’t help but come. She told me she should call a doctor, but you look just fine.” Dad chuckled. “But what the heck happened to you? Your friends said they just found you on the street.”
“It was nothing.” I said. I realized Harvey and Laura didn’t mention a thing about Alex and Nick, but it worked better that way.
“I think she slipped and bumped her head.” Laura laughed and tried to sound like she was teasing or whatever, but it was better than something serious.
“Gee, Liyah. You could’ve told me you’d slip. I could’ve caught you, and you’d fall in love with me.” Harvey laughed while Laura poked him with an elbow.
“I’d rather slip and lose my head.” I kidded as I slid and sat properly beside my mom.
“Don’t talk like that, Liyah. I’m just glad you’re okay.” Mom said as she brushed my hair.
“Thanks, mom.” I held her hand.
“Okay!” Harvey started. “It seems Liyah is okay, and it’s a little late, so is it okay if we could head home?”
“Sure, it’s okay.” I nodded and smiled at Harvey and Laura. “Thank you for worrying about me.”
“Hey, I can’t really leave my best friend hanging, right?” Laura smiled back. “You looked after me all these years, Liyah. You can always give me a call when you need something.”
“Thanks.” I nodded as Harvey and Laura started to walk to the door. “Have a safe drive.”
“Okay. Get well.” Laura and Harvey started showing themselves out. “See you tomorrow!”
“See ‘ya!” I gave them a wave. Harvey waved back as they went outside.
There was a brief silence when Laura and Harvey left. Somehow, mom and dad were comfortable with the silence, like they were able to communicate just by looking at each other. I found them giving each other some weird facial expressions, and I had no way to understand them.
“Mom? Dad?” I called to them, and they both smiled at me.
“You’ve got some wonderful friends, Liyah.” Mom said.
“Yeah, that Harvey dude mentioned you’d be going on the same college, right?” dad carried Red on his arms. As usual, Red was a bit silent, but he looked cute.
“Yeah, we are, and they’re the best people at school.” Maybe I was complimenting Laura and Harvey too much.
“How’s Nick by the way?” mom asked. Suddenly, I was struck. I never really told them anything. Mom just knew that Nick was my ex. She never knew about the serious stuff with Alex.
“He’s okay. I haven’t quite seen him though. We were in different classes.” I tried to stay as casual as possible. After all, I didn’t want my parents to be involved in all this love shit.
“That’s her ex, right?” dad asked mom.
“Yes, dear. They broke up but stayed friends. Why did you two break up again?”
“I’m not quite in the shape to talk about stuff like that mom.” I said. I could still feel the slight dizziness on my head. Every time I got a flashback of Alex, I got even dizzier.
“Anyway, honey, guess who’s coming to your graduation?” Dad started to fool around.
“You’re coming?” I was happy to have realized that. I always wanted my dad to see me graduate. I smiled and almost tore up.
“Not just me!” dad laughed. Then, he rose Red even further. “Red’s coming, too!”
“Yay! Isn’t that fun, Red?” I cheered on Red, and he smiled at me. Red always looked cute when he’s confused.
“Yeah. Maybe we could go to lunch together. You know, as a family?” mom added.
“Yeah.” Dad brought Red down. “That sounds like a plan. Red can come, too.”
“You know, I’m gonna miss Red when I go to college.” I said.
“Oh, Red’s going to miss you, too.” Dad grabbed Red’s tiny arms and swung them around. It looked really cute with Red’s innocent face. “No more Miss-Nice-Babysitter.”
“Liyah!” Red forced himself to say. That really melted my heart. I never really knew the feeling when a baby says your name. It was amazing since a baby doesn’t really know much words yet.
Dad and Red spent a little more time at home before leaving. It was actually such a great and peaceful time. I wish I could’ve remained stuff like that. I wished every day was like that… a peaceful day with my family and friends with no school, college stuff, or love triangles to worry about. Things were always better when they’re simple, so I wanted to keep them that way.
The next day after that was prom. I didn’t really know where it was being held because I didn’t really plan on going, and I really didn’t. I was sure Laura and Harvey were going, and I ought they’d get laid after especially because I wasn’t there to forbid them. I didn’t really care about that prom. Of course, I wanted to go, but I didn’t really see the point in going.
From what I remembered, Alex told me he wasn’t going to come, but I didn’t really know if he changed his mind since he decided to be with Winnie. Of course, I wished he wasn’t. I convinced myself I didn’t care, but heck, I did. I kept imagining myself dancing with him, kissing him, ending up with him, I don’t know about sex, but I imagined myself having a family with him. Even when it was seriously heaven-like to imagine stuff like that about Alex, I still had a lot of flashbacks about what he told me on the restaurant. I kept seeing those taillights that were leaving. I always kept getting dizzy whenever I remember that for too long.
Anyway, it was almost graduation, and heck, I couldn’t wait for my parents to come and watch me graduate, but I had something else in mind. I wanted to make something for my friends just to give off when I leave the school. I also hoped that maybe I could move on and forget about Alex because it seemed true that I was in love with the wrong guy.
