I looked to Norman and then to my mom and swallowed hard. I knew she knew who it was, but she wanted me to say it. She wanted to see if her assumption was right and I was nervous. I didn't know how she was going to react to the fact that this is Norman. This is the one that I was in love with and that I was going to have a baby with. My mom didn't know that he was older and I didn't want to tell her just yet, but here we were. Norman's arms were still around me but he was looking at my mom as if she was the scariest thing in the world. She was a short, but slim woman who couldn't hurt a fly and I found myself chuckling at the deer-in-headlights look that was on his face. He looked super adorable right now.

"Mom," I said, after quieting my chuckles of amusement and the panic began to rise in me, "this is Norman. He is the baby's father and the one that I have told you about." I swallowed hard as I looked to her and could see anger on her face. I knew where she was coming from with that and I understood why she was, but I hated the look she was giving him. I felt very protective of him as I moved into him more. His body was tense under my touch and he kind of reminded me of Daryl in that moment.

"You," she spat in anger, moving towards him as he got up, helping me up off the green carpet. Her finger was stabbing into his chest as she ranted, "you hurt my baby. How dare you?" She was seeing red and honestly I was embarrassed by the way she was acting, but I knew she only did it out of love. My hand went to my stomach as Norman took the verbal lashing my mom was dishing to him. I actually saw him flinch with each poke of her finger against his chest and I bite my lip. I couldn't believe how afraid he is of my mother. I found it absolutely adorable and my heart beat with how he was taking it.

"Ma'am, I know I hurt your daughter and I didn't mean to. I love her with everything I have in me. I was scared to have another chapter, especially at this age and with my career, but I have come to the conclusion that I do want this and I want it with your daughter. She has shown me love and how to live again. She brought me joy," he spoke and as he did, he was looking at me. His eyes never leaving mine and a smile stretched across my face. I couldn't help but feel my heart swell and just then the baby decided to kick.

I watched my mom's face soften, but she was still a little angry. This was one of the first times my mom grilled my boyfriends. She never really liked any of them and I understand that because I wasn't the best at picking out guys. My mom wasn't completely won over, but I had a feeling that Norman would do just that. He could be completely charming when he wanted to be and I am kind of glad that he was.

"I still don't completely like you but you make her happy," my mother said, resignation in her voice, "you hurt her again and you will pay for it."

I gave her a smile and hugged her before Norman hesitantly hugged her, whispering something to her and I could see tears springing in her eyes and I frowned. I wondered why she was crying, but I just let it go. I am sure I will find out or it could be something different. She was emotional like me.

"I had bought some lights for the dining room light," She told me, holding up the small package of light bulbs and I couldn't help but chuckle. It was only last night when the light had went out and I had texted her that I had to get some light bulbs. "Mom, I said I was going to get them," I told her as I heard Norman shuffling and the sound of the balloon hitting the ceiling as he carried them to the dining room table to set them down. I gave him a soft smile as he took the bulbs from my mom and grabbing a chair to stand on. He was taller than either of us and luckily he was, because he could reach the light perfectly. I watched his muscles flex as he removed the fixture and the dead bulb, replacing it.
