Chapter Six

As soon as my parents started fighting again, I snatched Jace out of his room and went to Margaret's house. She has been helping us everyday since the day Dad hit Mom. It's been hard for the both of us and Meg has been more than willing to help us out.

Add that to the list of reasons why I like her.

At the moment, I was laying upside down on Margaret's bed. She was trying to finish some extra credit homework that she got from Mr. Smith. It was social studies homework and might I say, it looks so boring.

"How can you stand it?" I asked dramatically.

"Stand what?" she said, not taking her eyed off of her homework.

"That...that...nonsense!" I said. "It's so boring."

She snorted. "You mean my homework?"
"Yeah."

"It's fun."

"You're crazy." I sat up straight for a while because the blood was rushing to my brain, then I hung upside down again.

"Are you done yet?" I said with a groan.

"No."

I waited a few seconds. "How about now?"

"No."

"Now?"

She slammed her hands on her desk and spun around to face me. "God dammit Corny! If you don't shut the fuck up you can get the hell out!"

I sat upright on her bed and frowned. "Fine." I went to leave, but she stopped me.

"I'm sorry," she said, tears forming in her eyes. "Can you forgive me?" She wrapped her arms around my waist and gave me a tight hug.

I hugged her back. It felt really good to hug her. "Oh, uh...Yeah, of course."

She sat back down in her chair and went back to her homework. A good idea came into my head, so I said, "Do you want to get ice cream when you're done? My treat." Ice cream always makes her feel better, so I thought she'd want some.

She huffed in annoyance. "If you bother me about it one more time, I'm going to ignore you for a week."

"Damn, what crawled up your ass and died?" I said. Wait...If you put the pieces together... "Are you PMSing?"

She groaned. "Is it that noticeable?"

"Only if you put the pieces together." She went back to her work. "I'll be downstairs if you need me."

"Okay." I left her room and went downstairs to see my brother watching videos on his computer.

I walked up behind him and pulled his ear buds out of his ears. "Hey, bro."

Jace paused his video. "Oh come on! I was just about to see if Mitch and Jerome win money wars!"

I rolled my eyes. "You can always finish it later."

He closed his laptop. "So, what's up?"

I sighed. "Meg is PMSing. (I heard him say 'ew' when I said that). It's so annoying. She keeps yelling at me and nagging me for asking her questions," I said, running both of my hands through my hair.

He huffed. "Annoying? Come on. We both know you don't think she's annoying."

I sighed for what felt the millionth time today. "Yeah...I know. It's...complicated."

He rolled his eyes. "What, your feelings for her?"

"Jace, I'm confused. I've never felt like this before."

"Not even with Patricia?"

I shook my head and looked at his closed laptop. "No. Not even a little bit."

"Hmm...I say that you wait and see if she feels the same. Don't tell her right away. She might get scared and start avoiding you or something."

...Huh. I didn't think of that. Maybe he's right. I'll wait and see if she shows any signs of liking me. If she does, I'll tell her how I feel. For now, I'm going to treat her like my best friend.

"Thanks, Jace," I said, taking one of his ear buds. "Now, play that video."

Hey, guys.

I'm sorry this is soooooooooo short. I'm having minor writers block. I had two drafts before this, but I deleted them and wrote this one because I thought they were horrible. I know what's going to happen next, but I can't write it without me thinking it's bad.
