"Dad! Ethan is being a scumbag!"
"No, I'm not! Mira is!"
I sighed before walking into their room. "Stop swearing, Mira. You know I don't approve of it."
Mira climbed onto her bunk. "Sorry, Dad. He was pulling my hair."
Ethan huffed and climbed onto the bottom bunk. "It's not my fault! She was telling me my Pokèmon team sucks. It doesn't suck, does it?"
I sat down on the floor next to his bunk. "Lemme see." He handed me his 3DS and laid his chin on my shoulder. "You only have three?"
Ethan nodded against my shoulder. "I've only needed three so far. Litten, Rockruff,
and-"Mira huffed. "You wanted Lycanroc's midnight form, right?"
"Well, yeah. It's so cool."
"That's already bad. That will be two dark types right there. You won't be able to make it past fighting types with two dark types."
Ethan grunted. "I have another one, though. I have Pikachu."
I chuckled. "Pikachu is kinda cute."
"I know, right? Did you see his new form for the Alola region? He surfs on his tail! Surfs on his tail!"
Mira groaned, then a slapping noise was heard. "I face palmed because of you, Ethan. I face palmed."
"Oh yeah? Let's hear your team then."
"Well, considering we just got the game today, I'm not very far. You, however, are a speed demon and already beat the second gym. Curse you. We just got the game a couple hours ago." I looked it to see her roll her eyes and blow some hair out of her eyes. "My starter is Popplio. Since Popplio will eventually evolve into Primarina and become a water slash fairy type, I've decided to have Vikavolt, Dugtrio, Salamence, Marowak, and Bewear be the rest of my team."
"Why?"
Mira rolled her eyes again. "Because. They all compliment each other. That and they can protect each other. For example: Popplio is a water type, right?"
Ethan nodded. "Yeah."
"So, if we ever come across a grass type, Vikavolt will be there. Since it's bug and electric, the bug part of him can kill the grass type because grass is weak against bug. Then, the grass won't be very effective against it because it's bug and electric."
"Ohhhhh! You're so smart!" Ethan smiled at his sister.
"Why, thank you. I get it from Mom."
My jaw dropped. "I'm smart!"
Both my kids stared at me like I was crazy. "You're so mean! I can take those games back!"
Immediately, they hugged their games close to their chests. "Nuh-uh! These are ours!" they both said.
I chuckled. "I wasn't going to. I'm an awesome dad."
They agreed with me. How could they not? I'm the best dad in the world.
"Guess what, guys?"
"What?"
I pulled a 3DS from my pocket. "I got myself one too!"
"Yay!"
"Now you're cool!"
I put my hand on my heart in mock hurt. "I've been cool!"
"What game did you get?" Ethan said, changing the subject.
Since Mira got Pokèmon Moon and Ethan got Pokèmon Sun, I decided to get Sun because Mira would kick both our butts. If we teamed up, we would beat her.
"I got Pokèmon Sun."
"Traitor," Mira grumbled.
"Yay! Cool Dad!"
I chuckled and opened the game.

"Happy birthday, kids."
They both smiled. "Thanks, Dad. Thanks Grandma Janet, Grandma Mary."
"You're welcome."
Then we ate the dinner they picked out. It consisted of thick, juicy cheeseburgers, French fries, and orange soda.
"Good dinner you picked, kids. Very good." I smiled at them.
"Thanks, Dad. We have it every year and you always say the same thing," Mira said.
"Yeah, but I like when he does that. He's a great dad," Ethan said.
Mom said, "He is a great dad. He's done well since the death of your mother."
Mary started talking with Mom.
"How is your first teen birthday?" I asked them.
"Great!" Ethan said with a full mouth.
"Ew, E. Stop doing that." Her nose crinkled in disgust. "It's been really good, Dad. Thank you."
"You're both welcome. It's a pleasure to make you guys happy."
After dinner, Mom and Mary left. It was about an hour drive home for them, so they left at around seven o'clock. Then, the kids and I went back into their room to play Pokèmon.
About another hour later, I left the room to get the other presents I had for them. Inside each box was a picture of their mother, something I gave to then every year. The picture was always different, and they loved getting them. The other thing for each of them were necklaces that a tiny slice of pizza on the end.
I had one, Mira was getting one, and Ethan was getting one. Each slice would fit together and make a whole pizza, just like best friend necklaces. It signaled our eternal family bond. It would last forever, and nothing could break us apart.
"Hey, guys, I have something else for you." I walked in and handed them the small boxes.
"Ooh, what's this?" Mira asked.
Ethan shook his box before they both opened it. "Ooh, a necklace."
I told them what it meant and why I bought it.
"Awe, who knew you could be so sappy, Dad," Mira said, clipping the necklace on her neck.
"Well... Your mother taught me to show love to people you love. I don't care if I'm sappy."
"Thank you, Dad."
"You're welcome. Happy birthday."
