Corny - Finally!
I was sitting in my room, trying to get the courage to call Meg, when I got a call myself.
"Hello?"
"Oh my gosh, Vincent, something happened!" Mary said.
My blood ran cold. "What? What happened?"
Mary sniffled. "Meg was beat up by some girl with red hair and a guy with brown hair. I don't know either of them are."
I knew exactly who it was.
"I know who. Where are you now?"
"At the hospital," she cried.
"Alright. I'll be there." I rushed out of my room and ran down the stairs two at a time. "Mom! I'm going to the hospital!"
"OK be back before- wait why?"
"Meg was beat to shit by Patricia and some dude."
"I'm coming with, then. It's about time you talk to her. Jace!"
He ran out of his room. "Yeah?"
"Come on! We're going to the hospital!"
"Why?" he said.
"I'll tell you in the car!" Mom said. We threw our shoes on before driving over to the hospital, quicker than you can say Corny, you're stupid.
Which I know I am. If I had just believed Meg and grown up, she wouldn't be in this situation right now. It's all my fault. I should've taken Patricia's threat more seriously.
God, Meg, I'm so sorry.
I quickly parked the car and locked it when we got out. Then, we ran into the hospital and to desk.
"Margaret Anderson?" I said.
She typed some things on her computer before looking up at us. "Upstairs, room 208. Should be right there."
"Thank you," I said, before we ran to the elevator. I repeatedly hit the button for the second floor, feeling more anxious by the second. When the doors opened I rushed out and ran down the hallway, looking for room 208.
206...207...208!
I opened the door in a hurry. Once I saw that Meg was laying on her side, crying very hard, I knew something was wrong.
I rushed to her side and leaned on my knees to be face to face with her. "What happened?"
As soon as I asked that, she burst into tears. "T-the ba-"
I hugged her close, knowing that she needed the comfort. "I should've been there. I should never have left you on Christmas. I apologize for everything."
After she calmed down, I asked her what happened. "I got beat up by Patricia and Grey because she was jealous that I was having your baby and not her. So, she got Grey to beat me up and here we are."
I cursed under my breath before resting my hand on her stomach. "And the baby?"
She shook her head slowly and began to cry again.
Tears sprung into my eyes as I processed what she said. She lost the baby. My child, that I should've helped her with, was dead.
I cried with her. I can't believe this happened. It's all my fault. I knew it was my baby too, but I was too much of a coward to admit it.
"I'm so sorry," I cried. "I'm so sorry."
Soon afterwards, we both calmed down. I ended up on the bed with her and she laid her head on my chest. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and I was now playing with her hair.
"I'm sorry, Margaret. You don't deserve a guy like me anymore."
"I know. I should be mad at you, but I can't be because I just lost my baby."
The doctor walked in shortly after. "Hello, Margaret. How are you feeling?"
She shrugged. "Empty."
"That's normal when you lose one of your kids," he said. "But, I'm happy to say that your other kids made it."
"What?" we said at the same time.
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "You didn't know? You were pregnant with triplets. You only lost one."
I looked at Meg in surprise. "So you're still gonna be a mom?"
"And you're still gonna be a dad!"
We smiled at each other before pulling each other into a hug.
"Now, I know you're excited, but you still have to be careful. You are still hurt, so you need to take it easy. Remember that babies take a lot of your energy, so you should probably get some rest," the doctor said. "Have a good day." He left the room.
"Happy birthday, Meg. I'm so sorry that I haven't talked to you for a few months. I was terrified at first, but then I didn't have the courage to call and make things right. I love you and I understand if you don't feel the same anymore."
She sighed. "Of course I still love you. I'm just hurt that you would ignore me for that long. I went through so much and I needed you, but you weren't there. If I am going to forgive you, you need to prove that you're going to be there for me. Like, actually prove it. Got it, mister?" she said, pointing a finger in my face.
I chuckled. "Yes, sir. I mean ma'am."
She smiled and hugged me. "Gosh, I missed this so much."
"Me too. I missed you so much."
She pulled back and kissed me. "That too."
I kissed her back. "I can't believe I'm going to be a dad."
"You're going to be a great dad," she said.
"You're going to be a great mom."
"Were going to be great parents, aren't we?" she said.
"Well, I am pretty awesome, so..."
"Wow. How arrogant. But that's one of the reason why I love you."
"I love you more."
