Putting Up Resistance

Chapter 55

 Alexis looked from one man to the other and sighed with relief. They didn't look or seem threatening. One had short sandy brown hair, big blue eyes and looked to be in his early 40s. He was shorter than his companion who looked to be about 6' tall, wearing a brown jacket with a wolf sign on the right pocket. They all wore the same jacket, must be the council's uniform or something. The other one had long brown here that reach his shoulders and she could tell instantly that he was the bad boy type. He was muscular and had green eyes like her. They seem puzzled as they looked around before their eyes landed on her.

They both smiled warmly and she was instantly at ease. They didn't seem dangerous or like they wanted to hurt her. Where had those feelings come from anyway? Now she felt stupid for her reaction. What was wrong with her?

Lucas stands up with her in his arms before putting her down to stand on her own. Self-conscious, she quickly brushed her dress down to make sure she was presentable. 'Hello Jerman, It's been awhile.' Lucas said as he left her to talk to the men. He shook the blonde haired one first so she guessed he was Jerman. 'Yes. It's nice to see you again and finally mated.' He looked at her again and smile. 'You remember Herman?'

'Yes. How are you?' Lucas asked as he shook Herman's hand. She was starting to feel awkward just standing there alone but felt a little better when Kara came and stand beside her. They talked and catch up for a few minutes before Lucas turn to her gesturing her forward. But she couldn't move because when she looked behind the men she was met with the darkest eyes she had ever seen. It was then she remembered that she had heard three car doors. The last one must have been talking to Alandro when he went to the door.

He was the tallest of them all with a bald head and he was staring at her in a way she didn't like. It was the same reaction she had when she had met Jaxon and she felt her body shiver in fear. Taking a deep breath she sniffed the air and almost choked at the rotten smell. ‘Do you smell that?’ She asked Kara. Kara sniffed but she didn’t seem to smell it ‘It smells like rotten meat or something like that…you don’t smell it?’ She looked around trying to find the smell then her eyes landed on the new comer-who seem to stiffen under her gaze.

She stared wide eyes as he smiled at her but she knew it wasn’t a real one. Didn’t the others realise his odour? He didn’t smell like a werewolf should. He came around Herman and shook her mate’s hand 'DON'T. TOUCH. MY. MATE!' She growled at him. Crouching down in a defensive pose, she felt her canines and nails extending. If she could shift into a wolf at this moment she would have and rip his throat out. She growled again and began moving forward but stopped when she felt Lucas through her angry daze. ‘Calm down love.’ Taking a few deep breaths she tried to calm but it was no use.

The man was still too close to her mate and she didn’t trust him one bit. She send her feelings to Lucas and she was satisfied when he took a few step away from the him. She didn’t even realise she was going into defensive mood and she blushed and looked away confused. What was happening to her? Why was she feeling this way? She didn’t know him, he was a council member but she just knew he wasn't a good person. She could feel it in her bones.

'Alexis are you okay love?' Lucas quickly came over to her and hugged her.

Taking and deep breath she told him she was fine. She gave him a smile to reassure him but she knew she didn't convince him, after all he had access to her emotions. He sighed and started to pull her forward but she didn't move, she honestly didn't want to go anywhere near that late comer. But she told herself she was acting ridiculous and walked slowly towards them. Half way across the room, the need to stay away from the bald guy got to strong forcing her to stop again.

Everyone was staring at her curiously especially the council members, but they forced a smile and came to her instead. The bald guy stayed behind and looked at them contemplatively. 'This is my mate Alexis Manro, meet the head of the council Jerman Antoni, his second in command Herman Swatt and...his third in command Marco Robins. These three made up the top of the council.' Why didn't she feel frightened when Herman and Jerman was near her and didn’t feel frighten to shake her hand? They smiled at her putting her at ease for a second.

'It's nice to finally meet you Alexis, we have so much to discuss but it can wait for later. I would like to get to know you because as you know this is very rare and I have a thirst for knowledge.' Jerman told her 'Marco why don't you come say hello?' Alexis watched horrified as the man smile and walked towards them.

'Mommy...mommy...mommy' She gasped in shock when she heard tiny voices in her head. Lucas looked at her confused before he looked at her stomach. What the fuck? Both she and Lucas touch her belly the same time and her babies were moving like crazy. 'Lucas what is going on? Did you just hear...?'

'Yes love, I heard. I don't know...' Whatever he was going to say was cut off by Jerman. 'Is everything alright?'

'Yes everything is fine.' Lucas told him quickly.

Marco came and stand in front of her holding out his hand. 'Mommy stay away from him!' Her babies shouted in her head, shocking her again. She let go of Lucas' hands and step back. She started snarling at the man, warning him to stay away from her but he didn't seem to get the clue. Lucas jumped in front of her and growled at him, only then did he look away from her to Lucas. 'Marco!' Jerman snapped as  he and Herman looked between her and Marco. She could clearly see that they were confused.

'I just want to meet her. You don't have to be afraid of me Ms Manro; I am not going to harm you.' He whispered soothingly but it was anything but. She felt something came over her, like a little bubble and she wondered briefly what it was.

The man reached out to whole her hand but she stared confused as his hand was suspended between them. It was like an invisible wall was keeping him from getting to her. A second later Lucas push Marco away. 'Don't touch my mate Marco; she doesn't like to be touched. Respect that.' Lucas growled at him wrapping his arms safely around her. She sighed and relaxed into his chest but she didn't take her eyes off Marco, who was now glaring at both of them. 'How are you doing this?' Lucas asked through their connection.

'I'm not doing it. Do you think it's the babies? They didn't want me to be near Marco.' She didn't understand any of this stuff. What the hell was going on? 'Stay with me okay, I don't want him to hurt you.' Just then the awful scent hit her again and she looked around again. Taking a deep sniff in the air her eyes landed on Marco and she knew then it was coming of him. This time it smelled like pure blood, musky and old. He didn't smell like the other wolves. He didn't smell like any wolves. 'Lucas do you smell that? It's Marco; he doesn't smell like a werewolf.' Lucas eyes snap to Marco.

'Maybe we should come back another time. Tomorrow maybe?' Marco said hurriedly, he looked to be in a hurry to finally leave. Lucas agreed and Marco was the first one to rush out. ‘I don’t know what happen here but we will discuss it tomorrow.’ Herman told them as they walk to the door. Lucas followed them out and she sighed with relief when she heard the door close and the car pulled away a few minutes later.

She sat down on the couch and took deep breaths to calm her racing heart. 'Alexis what was that all about and how did you....do that when Marco was trying to touch you?' Xavier asked and he tried to reach out to her but just like Marco he couldn't touch her. She blushed and said sorry.

'It's not me, I think it's the babies. They kind of spoke to me, they didn't want him near us so they did it I think.' Lucas came and sat beside her before pulling her into his arms. Well guess the babies knew who was a danger to them. She smiled and cooed at them, she felt very proud of them as weird as everything might be. 'They let you in,' she whispered to Lucas.

'This is all so strange. Is this the first time they have spoken to you?'

'Yes.' Lucas only stared at her before he leaned down and kiss her. 'The shield is still up, yes? Because you are bursting with energy...' When she nodded he continued 'And no one else can touch you? Kara try and touch her,' they watch mesmerised as Kara tried but it was no use. Kara and the others just laugh, they were all fascinated. 'I guess they still feel threatened. ‘Hey my talented pups, this is your daddy. You are all safe you can stop now. No one here is going to hurt you.' Kara tried again but it was still up.

They began to rub her belly soothingly and Alexis could feel it going away 'You're safe babies. Daddy loves you...' And with those last words she felt the shield drop. Alexis always loved when Lucas talked to her stomach.

'That is so cool.' Marcus shouted causing everyone to laugh. One thing for sure she wasn't looking forward to seeing Marco tomorrow.
