Chapter 29: On the Nick of Time

Normal POV

  "I thought you said that Poshi Town was near this forest? How come we haven't reach it yet?!" A pink haired teenager whined loudly at his companion who was in the form of a blue cat with angel wings sprouting from his back. The little feline had a map on his paws, leading the way. The duo decided to sleep at the forest near there next destination in hopes to save money. Though, they overslept which caused them to be behind schedule. It was already 10:30 am by the time they woke up. Took another hour to clean up, eat breakfast and tidy up their make-shift camp ground which was just a bonfire and two sleeping bags.

  At 11:30, they started to venture the forest even deeper. They could have returned back to the previous town they went to and take an hour train ride to reach their destination, but Natsu hurriedly dismissed that idea and proposed to walk through the forest instead. And that leads to their current situation. Lost and frustrated. Apparently, the forest they were in was large and wide. The fact that it was 4 pm and they still haven't reached the borders of the town was enough proof of that. It might also be the fact that they we're lost thanks to Happy's sense of direction.

  "For the tenth time, Natsu. NO. And it's not Poshi, Hotchu, not even close to Hodgkin or Honshu! It's Hoshi Town, Idiot!" The Blue Exceed groaned, frowning at his travelling companion with disbelief.

  "Yeah. Yeah. Are we there yet?!" The pyro huffed, annoyed. He crossed his arms infront of his chest and glared at the flying cat who had decided to settle on his head. Happy dismissed his wings and sat on top of Natsu's pink locks.

  "I don't know. We got lost two hours ago. I don't exactly know where we are as of the moment." Happy shrugged, snuggling deeper in his hair, the map rolled and held by his right paw.

  "Then what's the use of that stupid map?!" The dragon slayer asked, snatching the rolled paper from the cat. Happy didn't even put up a fight as he let Natsu take it fully.

  "Don't even try, Natsu. You don't know how to use a map." The exceed simply said, yawning.

  "I do! I'm not stupid!"

  "You sure? You might lose your brain cells entirely."

  "I can read a map! See? We're in Terran Forest!"

  "Natsu, Terran Forest is located at the borders of Crocus which is half way across Fiore. We're in Starry Sky Woods."

  "W-What? I can't be reading it wrong! It clearl-"

  "You're holding it upside down."

  "Huh?" Natsu flushed in embarrassment as he realized that it was, in fact, upside down.

  "See? Let's call it a night. You can't read a map and i'm too tired to fly and look for the next town." Grumbling, Natsu had no choice but to agree.

  The travelling duo had set up their camp. By the time the sun started to set, a bonfire was already up. Two sleeping bags, a large and a smaller one, were placed around the fire, providing the 'campers' heat. At 6 pm, Natsu and Happy were feasting on fishes and an average sized boar which they had caught the time they ventured the forest for food. At 7 pm, the two were already lying on their make-shift beds, both staring up at the amazing view of the stars. It was then they realized the origin or purpose of the Forest's name. 'Starry Sky Woods' for it has a magnificent view of the night sky.

  It was around 7:30 when Natsu started to feel something strange. It was almost like he can feel dark magic. Despite his gut feeling, he decided to ignore it. At 8 pm was when he snapped awake. He felt two kinds of magic clashing. Light and Dark. It was strong and powerful. Most importantly, near. Waking up his partner, he ran towards the direction of what he can tell was a fight and battle.

  "N-Natsu.." the blonde gasped, flinching automatically due to the pain on her stomach.

  "Sorry i'm late, Luce.." the dragon slayer said, standing infront of the battered up blonde.

  "W-What are you d-doing here?"

  "Looking for a weirdo who ran away from home." Was his simple response. The blonde didn't need to think twice. She sat on the ground and focused on her own health instead. With her handkerchief, she started to clean her stab wound. She slightly let her guard down. She knew Natsu wouldn't let anything happen to her now that he's here. She may have not completely forgiven him, but he'll let him be the hero tonight. First, she needs to lessen the pain from her own wounds, regenerate her magic then help Natsu.

  "Who are you idiots? And why did you attack Lucy?!" The pyro yelled, earning a sweatdrop from the blonde. 'He sure didn't changed.' The Celestial Mage thought.

  "That is none of your business, pinky. Leave and you won't get hurt." Meria threatened, earning chuckles from her guildmates and a rather blank expression from Reaper.

  "Like hell it isn't! You hurt Lucy. That's why i'm gonna return the favor ten fold." With that, the pyro enveloped his entire body in flames before charging.
