Chapter 38: A Natsu Warm Welcome

Normal POV

  "Welcome to the first day of the Grand Magic Games!" The same pumpkin headed mascot that announced the preliminaries—only a miniature version—announced over the microphone, causing the crowd to cheer more enthusiastically.

  "Are you all ready to find out the top 8 guilds who had made it this year?" With this said, another series of shouts and cheers erupted from the audience. It was clear that they were excited, barely containing their own enthusiasm as they had long anticipated and awaited this event all year. Most of the people gathered inside the arena had personalized banners of their favorite guilds, some even made flags and head bands. It was clear as day that they had prepared for the games.

  "Without further ado, let's offically start this year's Grand Magic Games!" Fireworks claimed the clear blue skies, confettis of different colors showered onto the crowd and the sound of the gong filled the arena. It was such a wonderful day to start the games. Once everyone had managed to settle down and calm themselves, the pumpkin mascot continued on with his announcements.

  "This year, this 8 teams had fought their way through the appalling Sky Labyrinth! They had conquered and dominated the event, successfully sending them to the Grand Magic Games! Let us now call the eighth team that passed the preliminaries! Give it up for the return of Fairy Tail!" Five figures had emerged from one of the entrances leading to the arena. Once they came into view, instead of being greeted with cheers like they expected, they were bombarded with boos and catcalls. Erza Scarlet, Gray Fullbuster, Natsu Dragneel, Gajeel Refox and Laxus Dreyar looked around the arena with surprise and shock. They hadn't expected the hate and disgust that was being sent their way.

  "They're actually booing us?!" The fire dragon slayer exclaimed, dumbfounded.

  "We should have expected this. After what the rest of the guild had told us and the kind of treatment we had been receiving all day. They hated us from the start." The red haired requip mage explained, her eyes twitching at the annoying insults the audience had been throwing them. Everyone seems to disregard them, all other than their own guild mates who were cheering them on. Unfortunately, their suppose-to-be words of encouragement were being drowned by the loud insults of the crowd.

  "Still. They shou—"

  "We can't really complain now, can we? Even if we do, i doubt that they'll even listen to us." The biggest of the five, Laxus, said. Though, annoyance was clearly displayed on his usually emotionless features.

  "Now. Settle down, everyone! Let's all welcome the seventh team to make it! Give a round of applause to Quatro Cerberus. Rocker, Jäger, Warcry, Nobarly and Semmes!!" Unlike the previous team, they were welcomed warmly and far more civilized. This agitated the Fairy Tail team even more. It was obvious that the crowd was taunting them.

  "For the sixth place, here comes ever lovely Mermaid Heel! Araña Webb, Beth Vanderwood, Kagura Mikazuchi, Millianna and Risley Law!!" A team of all female members entered the arena, a louder cheer following them. The guild that earned the last place didn't dare comment, knowing full well that they won't receive the justice they deserve unless they prove and redeem themselves to the harsh crowd.

  "In fifth place, the guild of hospitality and beauty. Give it up for Blue Pegasus. Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki, Hibiki Lates, Ren Akatsuki, Eve Tearm and Nichiya!!" In came some familiar faces, in Fairy Tail's point of view. They appreciated it when Ichiya and the trimens approached them to say hi. They exchanged a few words and greetings. Blue Pegasus having voice out that they were glad to see them safe and alive.
