Chapter 33: S-Class Exams?

Natsu's POV

  I scanned the busy crowd of passengers in hope to spot a familiar shade of blonde only to be disappointed. I sighed, hearing the lacrima infused intercom switched on. From it, a voice of a lady boomed across the station as she announced that the train to Magnolia has arrived, as well as that the boarding will start in 5 minutes.

  "She's not coming, isn't she?" Happy, my trusted partner, asked. His voice hinted that he was sad and disappointed that her favorite blonde wouldn't come back with us. I was too.

  "I guess not, buddy." I answered honestly, placing a comforting hand on top of his head. A sad smile played on my lips as i tried to comfort him. But i knew it didn't worked. Happy was sad. Sounds ironic, huh?

  "Is she still m-mad at us?" Visibly, i flinched. I hadn't told him about our conversation yesterday. I didn't tell him that she refused to give me a chance, the she hasn't forgiven us yet. Though, i highly doubt that Happy is apart of that anger. She has a soft heart for him. Aside from that, Happy was one of the people who stood up for her.

  I decided not to answer, diverting my eyes away from him. Glancing at the big clock stationed in between of two ticket booths, i saw that we still have more than 3 minutes before we need to depart. Maybe..

  "I'm sorry, Natsu.. She wont come." It startled me when a voice suddenly said behind me. Whisking around, i was even more surprised to see that it was Yuuki and Kurt, Lucy's cousins. I had met them yesterday. It came out a shock to know that she still has living relatives left, let alone two brothers, one being her twin. I didn't want to believe them since it means that Lucy was keeping such q huge secret from us. Then, the resemblance was there. It was so obvious, noticeable. It explains the way Max, Lucy's twin brother, looks at me like he was already planning my death and burial.

  "Is that so?" I gave them a weak smile. At least not all of her remaining relatives is mad at us.

  "Though, she asked us to give this to you." Kurt gave me a folded piece of paper. At first i was confused. Why would she give me some paper? My confusion immediately dispersed when i unfolded it. A letter. A letter with one sentence. From Lucy..

  'Earn my trust to earn back my friendship.'

  It made me smile. There's still a chance. I can still have my Luce back..

  "What the hell took you so long, Ash-for-brains?!" A yell and punch greeted me as i entered the guild, half an hour after our train arrived in Magnolia. Wiping the corners of my mouth, i punched back with equal force. The half naked Ice Mage stumbled lightly but regain his footing. He glared at me which i responded with the same intensity.

  Being back in Fairy Tail, i felt warm and at home. As i set foot inside the guild earlier, i felt a tingling sensation on my arm. The same one that used to hold my guild insignia. By the time the weird feeling was gone, i felt a familiar surge of power and energy. Glancing down at my arm, a smile crept up on my face at the sight of my red insignia. It's really good to be back..

  "—ey! What are you smiling at, Ash-for-brains?! Finally having a screw loose? Didn't I ask you a question?!" My smile dropped and was immediately replaced with a glare.

  "I was on a mission, Ice Pick! Of course, i'll take long! Did you freeze your brain or something?!" I challenged, smirking as i did so.

  "Why yo-"

  "That is enough!" We froze on our place, glancing warily at the fearsome Requip Mage who threw us a dirty glare. She had her hands on her hips, looking directly at us which sent shivers down my spine.

  "Y-Yes, ma'am." The said demon's lips twitched upward, creating a smile that showed victory and satisfaction.

  "Thank you, Erza. Is everyone calm now?" Due to Ice Freak's 'welcome' present, i failed to notice Master who was standing at the balcony overlooking the first floor. He sent us—Ice Cone and I—a dry look before continuing on with what he was about to say.

  "The S-Class Exams are approaching. This year, I, along with the S-Class Members, had decided to hold the exams on Fairy Tail's sacred island, Tenroujima. The chosen participating members shall pack their bags and meet us at the Station first thing in the morning tomorrow. Am I clear?" The guild was filled with cheers and shouts of excitement at Master's announcement. Was it really that time of the year? Already? Then, i was lucky to have come back two months before my deadline in time for the exams. I can't believe i almost missed it..

  "First, we have Natsu Dragneel!" I wasn't shocked. I somehow knew i was going to be picked. The rest of the announcement, i zoned out. Clearly, i wasn't that interested. My mind was still focused on that letter i received from Lucy. She's giving us another chance. In that case, i need to make sure it's worth it. That she won't regret it..

  "Natsu?" Happy's voice snapped me out of my trance.

  "Yeah?"

  "Are you alright?" I forced out a smile. I shouldn't worry him. There's nothing to worry about in the first place. I'll make everything right again. I'll have my bestfriend back. Even if it's the last thing i do.

  "Don't worry. Who're the other participants?"

  "Levy, Juvia, Cana, Gray, Elfman and Freed." Strong opponents but i'll win..

  "Another thing, each participants need a partner. Those who bears the guild insignia, members that are not S-Class/co-participants are allowed. Decide wisely. I will offer two spots. One for the participant who won, another for his/her partner." Another round of cheers filled the guild. Grinning, i faced Happy who grinned back at me. Guess i already have a partner..

Me: *blank look*

So, the struggle is real.. My parents don't really keep track of all my quizzes, exams, tests and homeworks. They don't mind if i fail a test as long as i have passing grades for the end of the quarter or semester. It's nice, really. The downside? They don't know which subject you excel in and having troubles. *sighs*

So, i'm halfway finished with my PJO series. I'm currently in Book 4 (Battle of the Labyrinth). My feedback so far? IT'S SO FREAKIN' GOOD!! OH, GODS! I'M IN LOVE WITH PERCY JACKSON!!
