Chapter 10: I'm hired?
~★~
Lucy's POV
Scent of newly published papers, ink and old newspaper filled my nose as i entered the building with anticipation. The place was quite spacious and classy than i had expected. The front desk was located at the left side of the floor, rows of chairs were placed near the walls, and pot plants scattered on different places. An elevator was located directly across the main entrance where i currently stood while the stairs was on the right side, the opposite side of the front desk.
With much delight, i approached the front desk and came face-to-face with a small petite brown haired girl, which i assumed to be no older than 25. She's wearing office clothes, the usual white shirt, black coat and skirt. Her hair was done on a messy bun, with a few strands hanging loose. Her gray eyes held exhaustion, but was well kept hidden under her big rimmed nerdy glasses which framed her perfectly heart shaped face.
"Ummm, miss?" I asked, catching the girl's attention. Her once tired eyes was replaced with sparkling ones as she smiled at me.
"Hello. How can i help you, miss?" She asked, hope was evident on her features.
"Well, i was wondering. Is this a publishing company or something of that sort?" I asked hesitatingly, my cheeks heating up as the thought of being embarrassed here and now crossed my mind. I mean, what if this wasn't what i expected it to be? What if it was just some hotel or building? God, how embarrassing would that be?!
"Huh? Umm, yes it is. Welcome to Shining Star Publishing Company. As i asked, how can i help you?" Confusion and amusement crossed her features as she stared expectantly at me, patiently waiting for my reply.
"Well, i was wondering if there are any available job i can apply on?" I asked, feeling more embarrassed than i already. It took a full minute for the girl infront of me to register what as i said. But once did, she grinned brightly at me.
"Your looking for a job? Thank God! We're actually short on staffs!"
"Huh? Why is that?"
"You see, reading isn't exactly the town's favorite hobby. Also, getting interesting scoops and news is somewhat really rare considering that this is a peaceful and small town. Not much happening. This leads to very low sales which forced our boss to fire some staffs. I'm afraid this company is facing bankruptcy. A month or two, this will most probably be closed down. Are you still willing?" She warned which got me thinking. She's right on some point, though. This is indeed a small town but i doubt catching interesting scoops are that hard, that can be fixed. Besides, i don't have much of a choice.
"I'am still up for it."
"Great! I'm Zia by the way. Follow me and i'll lead you to my boss' office." Obediently, i did as i was told. I followed her quietly, we rode the elevator up to the 4th floor. I stared in awe as we entered the place. It was like a real office! Zia led me to a glass door and motioned me to enter.
"Excuse me for barging in unannounced, Mr. Shine. But there is someone who wishes to talk to you." Zia said as she gave me the signal to introduce myself. I nod at her and approached the old man's, whom i presume to be over 50, table.
"Good morning, Mr. Shine. My name is Lucy Heartfilia, 17 years old. I would like to offer my services to you. If you would permit me to, i would be more than happy to work as a writer here. I know you would need my requirements but unfortunately, i failed to bring any. I didn't really expected to come across a publishing company. But i can promise you sir, i'll bring them here first thing in the morning. I just hope you would give me chance. This is my-"
"Your accepted."
"-dream. To be a writer. And wait.. w-what?" He laughed at my surprised expression before motioning me to sit at the chair reserved infront of his table. Willingly, i obligued. Also, i didn't fail to notice that Zia was already gone.
"You wanted a job. Then i'll give you one." He said, smiling warmly at me.
"Just like that? I mean, i don't even have requirements here with me nor a proper job interview."
"Here at Shining Stars Publishing, we don't care about achievements nor experience. If it's for the sake of dreams, then who are we to say no? Besides, embarrassing as it may sound, but we need all the help we can get. I believe Zia had already told you about our company's problem or did she not?"
"Umm, she did. And i'm really sad to hear it."
"Thank you. But still, we need to assure the greatness of each staff. So, if you really want to work in this company, i'm expecting a sample article tomorrow at 9 am sharp. Also, bring those requirements of yours. Am i clear?"
"Crystal, sir!" And with that, i dashed out of his office rather excitedly. I swear i heard Mr. Shine laugh.

Sitting at a study table at my hotel room, i sighed in frustration. I cant seem to figure out the right topic that will surely earn me a spot at Shining Star. After running out of his office, Zia stopped me on my tracks and asked me about my sample article. She asked me what plan do i have for it which i answered with a shrug. That however, caught me thinking all the way back here at the hotel. What should my topic be? It should be eye catching and worth trending. But what?
Tapping the paper with my pen repeatedly due to irritation, i groaned and slumped my head on the table. Sheesh, am i having writer's block once again? No. That can't be the case. I'm just out of good ideas.
"Topic. Topic. Hmmm? It should be worth talking about. Maybe news outside town? But what? How about from Magnolia? Maybe about magic to make it interesting. A guild? Wait.. What about Fairy Tail? And how they always come on top?" (A/N: forgot to mention, this happened before the 7 year sleep.. As a matter of fact, let us all pretend it didn't happen,.please?)
With snap of a finger, i continued on working. Scribbling through the paper, here and there. After 30 minutes, i was finally satisfied.
The Stars that Never Lost their Shine
By: Lucy H.Fairy Tail is known to be the most infamous guild in the continent. They stood with full glory and pride as they wore their crown as strongest in all Fiore. With strong bonds of friendship and love, they marked themselves as the best guild of all. No one disagrees with them though as they are proclaimed to be the strongest and most passionate wizards you could ever come across with. They never hold a grudge. But what made this guild amazing is the fact that they care deeply for each member. They are nakama, that's what they say.
And the article went on and on. Seemingly satisfied, i decided to retire for the night. With a smile on my face, i drifted off to sleep..
