Chapter 10 ~ Hope is Lost, But Love Still Remains

I wanted this chapter to be Luke's POV, but I've decided that from now on it will only be Skye's so I can keep you guys guessing what Luke is feeling. Sorry to have to do that to you... :)

Everything was so peaceful. Colours of red, blue, orange, pink, purple, and many others surrounded me, I felt so happy. Fluffy pink clouds covered my feet. I wriggled my toes in the soft balls of puff. I wanted to stay here forever and forget my life.

But unfortunately, reality likes to sneak up on people.

My eyes flew open and I was instantly swallowed by deep blue ones. I was instantly filled with a fire of pain. I winced and groaned through my teeth, as my brain pounded against my skull.

"Skye..." Luke's smooth voice healed my aching ears and I squinted at him. His arms were wrapped around me, covering me in warmth and protection.

I spotted bruises and cuts on his face and I sat up to cup his cheeks with my hands. "Luke, oh God. What happened to you?" Suddenly, a pounding headache forced me to groan.

"You shouldn't be worrying about me, you're the one who needs taking care of." His lips formed a tight smile. "Besides, I'm a tough guy. I don't get hurt so easily." He pushed out his chest to show how macho he was.

I laughed at him. This felt... good. I missed his childish behaviour and his perfect smile. Why was I feeling like this? I had a strange feeling in my stomach that appeared every time he was with me. Could I be...?

Whether I believed it or not, I knew I was completely and utterly falling for him.

He noticed me zone out and caressed my cheek with his large fingers. "Skye, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything I said back there. I was just selfish and I let your father get to me."

"It's alright. It hurt, but I'm happy that you're okay." I smiled at him.

He pulled me into a tight hug and buried his head into my neck. "I'm sorry." He apologised again into my neck, his hot breath made a shiver run down my spine. "How did I let him get to me?" He whispered.

I played with his hair for a while. His midnight black locks were so smooth and comforting. It was like petting a rabbit. I thought it was time to leave, so Luke helped me stand up and entwined out fingers together as we walked back to town. His hands were so warm, it made me a little nervous because, I was holding his hands for the first time. This fuzzy feeling was a nice feeling.

Luke told me what happened while I was out. He said that when I made Noah cry (I was still shocked by that), Luke managed to use his powers to get away after fighting with the two men. I never thought my life would end up like this. Yet here I was, walking miles through a forest with battle scars and half carrying a guy I was probably falling for who has powers, and I had just escaped three very dangerous men. Why did I end up with a life like this? It's full of pain, guilt, regret, loss, and no hope.

I realised something and I looked at Luke. "Can we go to the hospital to see my brother?"

Luke chuckled. "We would've been going to the hospital anyway, look at us." He pointed to our dirty clothing and wounded skin.

"I guess you're right."

We finally made it back to town and thankfully, the hospital was only a few blocks away. We arrived at the hospital only a few minutes later and we were surrounded by nurses.
