Chapter 11 ~ Nate Is Gone

My lips were still tingling when we broke apart. We looked into each others eyes and I smiled. It was still raining, but not as heavy as before. Luke's black hair was curling at the ends, making him look even more beautiful. I probably looked like a mess.

"You okay?" Luke asked, giving me a comforting smile as I patted down my hair self-consciously.

I knew he was talking about my brother. "I'll be fine. It's just, seeing Nate act like that towards me... He's never tried to hurt me a day in my life." I sighed and frowned. "I guess I just have to accept that he's gone."

"Don't say that." I looked at the ground but he lifted my chin up with his hand. "Why did you kiss me?"

I shrugged and bit my bottom lip. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"I think you do." He smiled. "Spill it or I'll have to take you to the tickle monster."

"Tickle monster, really? You're so immature."

"Yep." He folded his arms across his drenched shirt. "Tell me."

"Never!" I declared, holding my hand up as if I had a sword.

"And I'm the immature one." He smirked and grabbed my sides, wiggling his fingers around my ribs. I burst into fits if laughter and squirmed uncontrollably as Luke tickled me.

"S- stop! Luke- I'm ser - serious!" I gasped. I couldn't take it anymore, so I lifted my hands and placed them on his hard chest. "Okay! I'll tell you! Just stop!"

"I'm glad you see it my way, Skye." He chuckled as I pouted childishly.

"I like you, okay? I never thought I would have these strange feelings towards someone until you came. I know this sounds cheesy, but I need you with me. I feel so happy when you're near that I just-"

Before I could finish my embarrassing confession, his pressed his lips to mine again. This time it was a short, soft and sweet kiss. I was never going to get used to his lips. "You're beautiful." He said after pulling back. This was the second time I had blushed blushed in less than an hour. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer for warmth. "Let's go back inside, it's getting dark."

We waited outside my brothers room for some news about what has happened to him. Although some of the nurses walking by gave us disapproving looks as we were drenched, but I didn't care. I needed to know what was happening with Nate. One of the Doctors that was in there earlier had approached us with a clipboard.

I stood up and walked to him. "Your brother has suffered a great amount of trauma this past year. When he woke from his coma, he had lost all his memory. We are still trying to figure out why." He said, scratching the side of his head with a pen.

"Has he said anything while I was gone?" I asked worriedly.

He shook his head. "Nothing except that he had a job to do. But that was all."

I slumped back down in the chair and sighed.

"Thanks Doc." Luke said goodbye to the Doctor before sitting beside me and taking my hands.

"Why is this happening to me?" I muttered.

Luke squeezed my hand to comfort me and it helped a bit. I didn't know what our relationship status was at the moment, but I had to worry about Nate and my father.

There was a loud crash coming from Nate's room, making me jump. I stood up and ran into the room to find Nate standing near the smashed window. Glass was everywhere, cutting into his feet.

"Nate!" I panicked.

He turned to me, his expression blank. "Skye Marsden, I will come back for you. And when I do, you will become one of us." He sounded so different as he said those words. Before I could say anything back, he jumped out of the window.

"No, wait!" I screamed running after him. Thank God we were on the first floor. I watched Nate run off into the woods and disappearing into the sea of trees. "Nate..."

"What's going on in here?!" A Doctor asked angrily as he saw me by the smashed window. "Get out!" He yelled at me.

I scurried out of the room and into Luke's arms. He embraced me tightly as I sobbed into his shirt, making it even more wet with my tears. Just when I thought things would get better, my own brother turns against me. It was all that man in the dark cloak's fault. He was probably one of Noah's followers with an ability like me.

After completely drying my eyes out from crying, I looked back at Luke. His eyes were full of worry and sympathy, but he replaced it with a smile. "Let's get you back home. I want to settle things with your father before we can think of a way to get your brother back."

I nodded, even though I doubted that my father would accept Luke. Luke would have to do a lot to convince him. This was going to be a long night.
