Chapter 12 ~ Setting Things Right

I stared at my dark house nervously. How was my father going to react when I tell him what happened? The lights were off, meaning he was either asleep or working. Would he be worrying about me?

"Skye?" Luke's soft voice made the corners of my lips twitch upwards. I was glad Luke forgave me for what happened. I was glad that we set things right. I still couldn't get that kiss out of my mind, or Nate. But right now, my father was the only priority right now.

We walked towards the front door. I knocked on it three times, then the door immediately swung open revealing my father. His eyes were dark and red as they gazed upon me, he looked extremely tired and worried. His eyes then went to Luke, and they narrowed slightly. "Inside. Now."

I bit my lip hard and followed Luke inside. Dad led us into the lounge room and he took a seat on the single couch, while Luke and I stood in front of him.

I was brave enough to speak first. "Dad...I-"

"You left me." He shook his head slowly, making me feel guilty. "You didn't tell me where you went, you just left. What if you were hurt? What if I would never see you again?"

I almost wanted to cry, but I held back the sobs. "You know I had to find him, Dad." My voice was shaking a little. "And you know what I am, don't you? You've kept it hidden from me all my life."

"I did it to protect you-"

"Well I guess that didn't work, did it? Because Mum is dead, Nate is missing and-"

He interrupted me, his eyes widening. "Wait just a second, Nate is missing?"

I sighed and nodded. "We ran into the Aphotics." The name still gave me shivers, as it always did, but I held a serious gaze at my father.

"You did what?!" He asked angrily. "Do you know how dangerous they are?!"

"I do now, but we got away alive, didn't we?" I reassured him. "Something happened after we escaped, though." Dad gave me a blank look but his eyes were signalling for me to continue. "Nate is... he's gone. He's not himself, something happened and he's changed. He doesn't remember us, but he does remember that he will make me one of them."

When I finished, there was a deep silence. Dad stared at the wall, his face was emotionless. I felt really bad for leaving him, but I had to save Luke. I would be useless without him. He saved me from becoming one of the Aphotics. I know I should've listened to my father, and if I did I wouldn't be with Luke. I still don't know what Luke and I are at the moment. With the kiss and our confession, and also Nate escaping, I couldn't handle all those things at once. I had to focus on getting Nate back.

Dad finally said something, after a while. "As long as he is safe." He mumbled. "Your mother would want him to be safe."

"Dad..."

"She had an ability, just like you, but she refused to use it."

I was surprised at his sudden confession. "What was her power?"

"She had something called Telepathy, which was reading someone's mind."

"Does Nate have an ability too?"

"Yes, he has Manipulative Hypnosis, he can control a persons mind just by looking into their eyes."

I paused for a moment, trying to process all the sudden information. "Do you have an ability Dad?" I asked quietly.

"No. Only the first born child has an ability. And since you and Nate were born on the same day at the same time, you both have an ability. I am the youngest in my family."

That made a lot of sense and I felt relieved that I wasn't confused as much. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around his stiff body, feeling a little sad at what my family was. "We will get him back Dad, I promise. Everything will be alright once we defeat Noah and his followers." I whispered into his shirt.

At least, I hope everything will be alright.

After hours of explaining to my father exactly what happened, and convincing him that I had to go back to the Aphotics again, we had created a plan to get Nate back and defeat Noah. Luke and I were to face Noah while Dad would try to find away to get back Nate's memories, and the only way to do that is to find someone with a memory restoration ability.

Right now, Luke and I were heading back to Noah's headquarters. I was a little scared to go back there. What if this time we won't escape and we get killed? What would happen if our plan failed? I didn't want to think about anything but to defeat Noah. He was going to pay for what he did to my family.

"This way." Luke whispered and I followed him through the dark halls of the building. "Here." He pointed to the door. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yes. He must pay for what he did to my family."

"You know I can't help you, Skye. My powers can only help us escape."

"I know."

He gently opened the door, trying to be as quick and silent as he could.

We entered the dark room. It was filled with an eerie scent, it was foul. I couldn't imagine anyone being in here, but I was wrong.

"Have you come to surrender, Skye Marsden?" Noah's malevolent voice always sent shivers through me. He was just a shadow in the room, there was no light to show himself. "I'll admit I thought you were going to put up more of a fight. But I guess I was wrong about you, you aren't as strong a you say you are. You're just as weak as your brother."

"Don't talk about my brother like that." I growled and knitted my eyebrows at him. "I am here to fight you."

"Is that right? How will you do that exactly?"

I stood my guard as Noah lifted his hand and twirled it in the air. "I'm not afraid of you."

"Really?" His clenched his fingers tightly together, and suddenly all air was lost from my lungs. This was all too familiar. "Again, how will you do that exactly?" Noah teased as he threw me across the room. My head smacked against the hard floor and everything around me caved in. I refused to give up.

"Skye!" Luke called out to me, but he was also thrown into the wall by Noah.

My legs wobbled violently as I forced myself to stand. I looked Noah straight in the eyes and his face contorted into a mixture of emotions. "I'm not the weak one," I whispered as I scrunched my nose and narrowed my eyes, "you are." He began to grab his hair and yell for help. "No one will save you, because you betrayed everyone you loved."

"W-what are y-you... doing to me!!" Noah screamed as he threw his head back and forth. "You c-can't hurt me! I'm too powerful!" He claimed through his teeth.

"You will never hurt my family again!" I closed my eyes tightly and my ears were filled with Noah's cries for help.

Then there was silence.

My vision blurred and my head pounded. Sweet music sounded through the air. It was the song my mother would sing to me when I was afraid. I could feel her presence near me, it was almost as if she was right in front of me. I reached out my hands to the thin layer of fog that somehow made its way into the room.

"Skye..." Mums gentle voice surrounded me. "Skye, please wake up..." Her voice, I missed her so much. "Skye!" I was suddenly swallowed by darkness and Luke appeared in front of me. My mothers voice was drifting away and was replaced by Luke's. "Skye, we have to get out of here!" He picked me up and carried my bridal-style out of the room.

Drifting in and out of consciousness, I tried to focus on Luke. He was blinking a few times and muttering words under his breath. He was using his ability.

All I had to worry about now was getting Nate his memories back. That's what was standing in the way to becoming a happy family again.
