Chapter 23 ~ Finally
"Skye?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you think Nate and I will get back together?"
I turned to face Layla and watched as she bit her thumb nervously. "That depends."
"Depends on what?"
I smile as I gaze at her. I've always admired Layla. She was so badass and never really cared what anyone thought of her. She was a good friend, even though she appeared like a total asshole. The only reason we became friends was because we both had the same views on everything. "That depends on whether you still love him."
She lets out a long breath and looks down at her feet, deep in thought. I never once seen Layla think this hard about something, and I almost laughed at the thought, but pressed my lips together so I wouldn't. I would earn a punch in the arm if I did.
I spotted my brother sit on the couch across from us. He sat next to Luke and they seemed to be talking to each other about something serious, but they were to far away for me to hear what they were saying. Why couldn't I have super hearing instead?
I nudged Layla in the side with my elbow and said to her, "Go tell him."
She stared at me for a moment surprised, before she nodded and stood up. I watched her walk over to Nate and Luke. She said something and Luke nodded before he came over towards me and sat next to me. We watched Layla and Nate in silence as they sat beside each other. I felt like a stalker and Luke was probably feeling the same way.
Finally, after five minutes of silence, Luke was the one to broke it after Layla and Nate embraced each other. "Finally." He whispered and I chuckled, wrapping my arms around his warm stomach and snuggling into him.

All of us were getting ready for dinner together. Dad was in the kitchen with Layla, cooking the meals, while Nate, Luke and I set up the table. I couldn't help but notice my brother had a slight bubbly aura around him. He was unconsciously smiling like a fool, and he was jumping around like he wanted to get things done, which was rare of him to do.
I looked at Luke who was also staring at Nate with a look of surprise and I muffled a laugh behind my hand. "You're in a good mood Nate." I said while putting down the last plate on the table.
Nate looked up at me and raised his eyebrows. "I'm always like this, aren't I?" He gave me a confused puppy look.
"No, you seem more bubbly. Ever since you and Layla got back together--"
"I'm not bubbly..." He trailed off as a deep blush creeped onto his cheeks.
"Nah man, you're whipped." Luke said and I burst out into laughter.
"Shut up!" Nate complained and left the room towards the kitchen. He was probably telling on us.
A knock at the front door interrupted mine and Luke's fit of laughter and I composed myself before opening the door.
"I see you're still alive." Pamela sort of greeted me as she stood at the door.
"Uh, yeah. What are you doing here?"
"I need to speak with your father, is he here?"
"Yeah, come in."
I opened the door so she could step inside and she went straight to the kitchen like she knew he was in there. I followed her and entered the kitchen.
"What do you want Pam?" Dad asked her, they were both standing in front of each other. Neither Nate, Luke, Layla and I had the guts to interfere.
"Look, I know I haven't been the nicest sister. And I know that I didn't help you because I was too selfish, but I want us to be a family again. I want to set things right and go back to the way it used to be."
I was shocked to hear the words coming out of Aunt Pam's mouth. She wanted to make things right again between her and my father, which was a weird thing to witness seeing as Pamela was... well, Pamela.
Dad stayed silent for a moment in deep thought as he stared at the ground before he sighed and nodded. "You weren't the nicest sister, but you're still family. The only reason you didn't help us was because you didn't want to use your ability, I understand that. I miss the days we were together as a family. I guess what I'm trying to say is, welcome to the family Pam."
And then, I witnessed something I thought I would never witness in my life again. My Dad and Pamela hugged.
Finally.
