Chapter 17 ~ The Memories Are Returned
My foot tapped against the beat of the wind as it flowed graciously through my hair. It felt nice.
I watched the leaves tumbled around on the ground. They were so free while I was stuck in reality. Noah ordered me to kill these three men, but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to do it. Every time I picture one of them in my mind, a storm of pain eats at my brain. The constant headaches were slowly killing me, but I didn't know what was causing them.
When will they end?
Sighing, I stood up and stretched my aching limbs to the point where I heard small soft cracks. I closed my eyes and inhaled the fresh smell before I took off to continue my mission. I travelled down the same street I did at my first attempt at killing my targets and found myself back at the house. The front of the small building stared at me as if to challenge me to go inside. I didn't want to risk going through the front door again, so I went around to the side of the house for another way in.
I spotted an open window and began to climb up the pipes that lead to it. I checked to make sure the room was clear before I jumped through and landed softly on the carpeted floor. The sun lit up the room from behind me and I looked around. Everything looked so familiar.
Before I could take in the appearance of the room completely all air was lost from my lungs as a wave of pain was sent to my head. I was overwhelmed by dizziness that I fell to the ground, a loud thump noise echoing throughout the house. I cursed underneath my breath and tried to stand up, but the pain was too unbearable. Instead, I crawled over to the window slowly, but was shortly interrupted by the sound of a door opening.
"Skye!" A masculine voice called to me, but I didn't stop crawling to my escape.
I had to get out.
Warm large hands soon wrapped around my waist and I was pulled up onto my feet. I ripped their hands off of me but immediately fell to the ground again with the loss of support. What the hell was happening to me?
Suddenly, the old man from the group of three was hovering above me, pouring his glowing brown eyes into me without blinking or looking away. I wriggled and writhed under his grip as he held my arms down, his gaze still locked onto me. "Get off me old man!" I yelled through my teeth but he continued to stare.
The other two men in the room were silent as they watched me struggle. Soon, I gave up to the old mans intense stare and admire his eyes as they changed from a variety of different colours. Then, one by one, images of all these strangers appeared in my mind, causing my body to shift and shake with the amount of pain and dizziness. Whatever was happening to me it was too late to do anything now because my legs were numb and my arms felt like they were being pricked with millions of tiny needles. I screamed in agony but my eyes were still unconsciously locked with the old mans.
The images flowing through my mind wouldn't stop. Each one was haunting me and pretty soon I couldn't help but let them flow. Tears spilled over my eyes as I continue to scream, the painful memories that flooded me were just too much.
"Stop it! Please!" I begged, my voice cracked from screaming.
My stomach growled with an unknown feeling and my chest started rising towards the ceiling, like something was trying to come out of me. I screamed one more time, and then I didn't know what happened next.
My eyes slowly opened and adjusted to the bright ray of light that beamed into the unfamiliar room. I sat up quickly, realising that I could be anywhere, then winced and groaned when a sharp pain forced itself through my head. I rubbed my eyes with the balls of my hands and sighed deeply, glancing around the room for any sign of a way out. There was only a door, but it was blocked by a guy in a chair, sleeping peacefully with his arms folded over his chest.
I carefully ripped away the covers from my body, but this loud action caused his eyes to fling open and his electric blue orbs gazed at me with a mixture of emotions I couldn't tell. We stared at each other for a few moments, the silence was ear-splitting and unbearable. I finally spoke, my voice almost lost and my throat was sore. "Luke...?" I managed to say in a whisper as hot tears sprung to my eyes.
His face softened and he smiled widely as he replied. "Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
I couldn't sit on the bed any longer, so I jumped off it and ran towards him. He stood up quickly and opened his arms to me, and I ran into him, fully embracing his warm body like it was mine. The tears stained my cheeks as I so be into his shirt, grabbing as much of his back as I could and silently promising myself to never let him go.
He gently stroked my hair and kissed the top of my head. "I thought I lost you. I swear on my life Skye that I will protect you until the end. I will never send you away again." He was crying now, his sniffs and sobs were echoing around the room.
And we cried together for hours and hours. I didn't know what had happened after I went to Noah's headquarters, everything was just blurry, but now I know that I will never leave Luke's side.
Never.
