My heels stabbed the moist dirt as I ran off the pavement and into timbered territory.

Prince had pulled into an empty parking lot that surrounded an abandoned building. I needed to get away from all the passing cars. So, I went left and headed for the trees.

Prince stood at my side and caught a good grip on my hair. But I quickly pushed him away.

"How much did you have to drink?" he asked, over my hurling.

The headlights' beams bent around the trees to give us light. Under me, I could see the pool of yellow bile spilled over the brown leaves.

I spun away from it.

"Baby?" His voice was drawing closer to me, again.

I didn't push him away this time when he touched me.

"Stop. You're done," he said.

Nothing but air was escaping from my gritty throat.

I attempted to erect my posture but a hard cough caused me to tilt over. My left hand gripped my knee and I laid my free palm over my belly.

"Kat, stop!"

I wanted to scream at him but I couldn't stop coughing and gagging. My abdominal muscles burned as my stomach kept involuntarily pushing inward.

Prince trotted away and left me for about fifteen seconds. Then he was back with a bottle of water and a white rag that was saturated with his drying sweat.

I didn't want the rag but I snatched the water, still gagging.

I twisted off the cap and put the plastic rim to my mouth. The water was warm, probably from sitting in his car too long. I whooshed it around my mouth maybe around five times before spitting it out.

Finally, able to stand up straight, I took some more in and was able to swallow it.

Prince watched me down the entire bottle. "You're gonna start puking again." The plastic crushed and crinkled as he snatched it from me. Nothing was spilled as the water level lined the bottom ridge of the bottle.

I didn't need anymore, either way. I started making my way back to the car.

Prince doubled in speed to catch up to me. "Give me the cap," he said, snatching again. "Are you okay?"

I nodded and walked around the lights path as we were back in the lot.

Prince stepped ahead of me to open my door. "Here." He threw the rag on my lap before shutting me inside.
