The party was in the warehouse district of Minneapolis. The room was spacious but intimate. And from all the designing I had done, you would never guess you were in a sculptor's studio. Purple drapes lined the walls and the cutlery and decorations matched the violet hue, along with the lighting.

The middle of the room was reserved for dancing. Rented cocktail tables and lavender lounge furniture, made of leather, branched out from the walls.

Prince was in awe and that satisfied me.

Everyone kept giving us that look. The cutesy grin and knowing nod. Of course, no one believed that I'd gotten sick. Everyone thought Prince and I went home to fuck.

Prince didn't get irritated about it until Adrienne stopped us by the illuminated bar. It was glowing purple, of course.

"Oh, I see you have a new dress on," she mentioned with the grin.

Prince, who was standing behind me, leaned over my shoulder. "And?"

"I was talking to her."

"And?"

Adrienne waved him off and set her eyes back on mine. "That was very rude, Kat."

"What was rude?"

"For you to show up so late just because you couldn't wait to get some."

My heart constricted when I felt Prince pushing on my back again.

"I'm sorry," he said, coming forward again. "You really think we drove all the way to Chanhassen just to fuck?"

Adrienne rolled her eyes as Prince laughed at her. "I wouldn't put it past you."

"You must not know your best friend. And you must be stupid."

"Okay," I said, elbowing his side. "That's enough." I grabbed on to his hand. "Adrienne, I have to find my mom. I'll catch up with you later."

Ten minutes in and already...

I was trying to get Prince through the crowd to take him to an honorary guest but he kept getting stopped along the way.

With every diversion, I quickly noticed Prince's hold on me. He never let his arm off my side, not even to fully embrace anyone. Everyone received half hugs.

I began to feel a little bad, especially when it came to his aunt. So, I tried easing him off of me but he'd just tugged me closer.

I'm not sure if he even realized he was doing it.

Waist to waist, we walked the room and I finally found the woman I wanted to see sitting on the plush, corner ottoman.

When Prince saw his mother, he freed his hold on me to meet her with a full, warm embrace.
