"What?" Michael tried to pull me off of him to get a look at me but I wouldn't let him.

With my eyes still closed, I held him to me tight. My head was glued to him. "I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"For what I just said..." Fuck. Why did I say that?

Michael kissed my forehead. "It's okay... I guess."

Finally, I loosened my grip.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked.

"About what?" I asked, grabbing another tissue and turning away from him.

"Why you were crying, Kat."

"No. But thank you." I blew my nose and tossed the tissue in the trash can. "Ugh. I know I look like a monster."

"There's nothing wrong with the way you look."

I grinned at him.

Michaels hands slid in his pockets. "Well... I have a flight to catch."

"You're leaving so soon?"

"I literally only came to Minnesota to see you. And my brothers all hate me for it."

"You came all the way here just to talk to me?"

"I wanted to see you in person. But I hope you'll call."

"Yeah. Well, I'm going to Los Angeles soon."

Michael grinned. "I got Warner to get me in to a private screening of Prince's new movie."

I was supposed to attend that. "Really?"

"Yeah. It's in a few days, right?"

"Yeah."

"Are you going?"

I hesitated. "Um, I'm not sure. But maybe I'll see you there."

"You won't. I'm gonna sneak in the back after everyone's inside."

"Of course you are," I said nodding.

"Well..." Michael opened his arms for another hug. "I'll see you soon."

"Thanks." I watched Michael's back as he left the office.

I hated that a part of me wanted to go with him.

I went home to an empty house. Ever since June 25th when Prince's album Purple Rain released, I'd been alone. Prince was in L.A. with all his people. The album already sold over a million copies and Warner couldn't be more pleased. Prince was ecstatic about all the positive reviews the album got. One referenced Sly and The Family Stone, others, Jimi Hendrix.
