Please Wake Up

Aaron's POV

It's been a tough year for us all, it's been depressing, worrying and scary. For the last year I've been bringing up a little girl, her name is Sierra, she's a really sweet and funny girl, absolutely gorgeous, looks just like her daddy. I just hope that her daddy wakes up, I'm not her father, Zak is her father, but he's at the emergency room, in a coma and has been for a year now, a little over a year now, Sierra has just turned a year old the other week, so, he hasn't met her yet.

"Uncle" Sierra says. She's been a fast learner and is slowly learning how to talk, she can say 'Uncle', 'Daddy' and 'Sleepy'. She knows I'm not her dad and Zak is, we have visited him once a day since day one of this coma, even though Sierra was newborn, I still wanted her to know who her actual dad is even if she does see me as her father. I'm just glad I was able to take care of her, I couldn't have let the social workers take her, the emergency room understood that I'm like Zak's brother and there is a chance he can wake up and I know he wanted Sierra and will want her.

"Hey princess" I say to her.

"Daddy?" She asks.

"We'll go and see him soon ok" I say. Then she starts crying. "Hey it's ok, he's gonna be ok sweetheart, we just gotta wait a bit longer" I say as I pick her up and hug her. "How about we go see him now instead?" I ask her. I looks at me and nods happily.

"Daddy" She says.

"Hey I got an idea, a challenge for you, can you say a new word? You know Uncle, daddy and sleepy, try a new word" I say as I get her dressed. It'll take her mind off things for a bit.

"L-l-lo" She says.

"Sierra are you trying to say love?" I ask.

"Yeah" She says without thinking about it.

"Wow, well you're getting there, keep trying" I say. I finish getting her dressed and get myself dressed.

"Uncle" She says.

"Ok I'm ready, let's go then" I say and I pick her up to take her to the car. "Ok you're all secure" I say checking her seat straps. I get in my side and start driving to the hospital.

"Daddy" Sierra says.

"We're gonna go see him now princess" I say. Soon we get there and go to Zak's room. Seeing him with tubes and wires attached to him is sad, lying there not having a clue about anything that has happened this year, not knowing he has a daughter. He has to wake up, he will wake up.

"Daddy" Sierra says as she starts crying.

"It's ok Sierra, I'm sure daddy will wake up ok, and he'll love you" I say to her as she watches him, it's weird to think the tube in his mouth is what is keeping him breathing at the moment, the doctors have asked me loads of times for permission to take him off the life support but I won't let them, Zak wouldn't give up on me so I'm not giving up on him, I strongly believe he'll pull through this.

"Daddy?" I hear Sierra ask. I look over and see that Zak is moving slightly.

"Zak?" I ask as I sit up with Sierra. His eyes slowly start opening. "Nurse, doctor, in here" I call for someone.

"Can someone take the child out" A doctor requests.

"Hey sweetie why don't we go get some candy" A nurse says. I smile and give Sierra to her. Zak starts panicking as he still has the breathing tube in his mouth.

"Zak, Zak just relax, we're gonna take the breathing tube out" The doctor says. Zak slowly relaxes. They take the tube out of him and give him some water.
