Chapter 17

Loren walks through the door with an angry look on her face. Eddie notices immediately.

He walks over to her and hugs her.

Eddie: What's wrong?

They stop hugging.

Loren: I fired Kelly.

She looks up at him

Eddie: Really?

Loren: Yeah.

Eddie smiles.

Eddie: Good for you!

She glares at him

Eddie: What?

Loren: It sucked.

Eddie: I know. I'm sorry.

He hugs her again

Loren sighs on her shoulder

Eddie: What made you do it?

They break apart once again and sit on the couch

Loren: She just... kept pushing me and it really started to take a toll

Loren didn't want to tell Eddie what Kelly had said about him because she knew he would get upset.

Eddie: Did you call Jake?

Loren: Not yet. It literally just happened.

Eddie: I'll call him.

He reaches for his phone on the coffee table but Loren grabs his arm to stop him.

Loren: Can you wait? Please?

He looks at her

Loren: I just need to relax for a second

Eddie: Ok.

He moves his arms back to Loren's leg

Eddie: Whatever you want.

Loren: Thank you.

She lies down on his lap

Loren: I'm tired.

He kisses her head.

Eddie: I know. Why don't you go lie down? Take a nap.

Loren: Ok.

She gets up and kisses him one more time and then descends to the bedroom.

Eddie sighs.

Loren changes into sweats, lies on the bed and dials Mel's number. She answers instantly.

Mel: Hey girl! Great radio interview!
Loren responds in an upset tone

Loren: Thanks.

Mel: What's wrong?

Loren: I fired Kelly.

Mel screams

Mel: Finally! Lo I'm so proud of you! But... why do you sound so down.

Loren: I feel bad.

Mel: Well what made you finally do it?

Loren speaks lower so Eddie doesn't hear her

Loren: She started saying how me talking to Eddie about what to do career wise was bad and getting in the way of everything and I just lost it.

Mel: Are you freaking kidding me? Eddie is the one that found you! You're a couple. You talk about this stuff.

Loren: I know that. But Kelly doesn't seem to think so. I'm scared Mel. She could sue me, or call the press. I just don't know if I can deal with all of that.

Mel: Don't psych yourself out. You don't know that she'd do anything. And even if for whatever reason she lashes out, your lawyer will deal with it. The world knows who you are and whatever she says, they won't believe.

Loren: I'm just scared.

Mel: I know. Have you talked to Eddie?

Loren: Are you kidding? He already hates her. If I told him what she said or how I really feel about everything, he'd lose it.

Mel: You have to tell him Lo. No secrets, remember?

Loren bites her lip

Loren: I don't know. Honestly right now I am just so tired and my head is killing so I'm gonna try to sleep it off. I'll text you later. Love you.

Mel: Love you too. Don't worry, ok? Everything will be fine.

Loren: I hope so. Bye.

She hangs up and puts the phone on the nightstand next to the bed.

She sighs one last time and then lies down, wrapping herself in the blankets and closing her eyes.

Max and Nora are sitting on the couch watching TV

Nora: I'm worried about Loren. Firing Kelly would be so hard on her.

Max: I know but it's the best thing to do for her and her career. She'll see that eventually.

Nora sits up

Nora: But what if Kelly tries to sue? Or she goes to the press? That'll eat her alive!

Max: We have to hope that Kelly doesn't then. Besides, I think it's a little out her character, don't you? I mean she knows the consequences it has for her as well. And she does care for Loren so she wouldn't try to hurt her.

Nora: I really hope you're right.

She puts her head on Max's shoulder and sighs.

Kelly walks into Jakes room, slamming the door behind her. Jake comes out from around the corner.

Jake: Kelly? What the hell?

Kelly paces.

Kelly: Loren just fired me!

Jake: Really?

She stops and stares at him.

Kelly: Well that wasn't exactly a concerning tone

Jake shrugs his shoulders

Jake: I'm just not that surprised.

Kelly's jaw drops.

Kelly: I made her career! I made it and what does she do to repay me? She freaking fires me!

Jake: It's not that she doesn't appreciate everything you've done for her. You two just don't see eye to eye anymore. It happens.

Kelly: So what? She's gonna sigh with you now?

Jake: I don't know.

Kelly: Yes you do.

Jake throws his arms up

Jake: What do you want me to say? She doesn't see you guys working out as manager and client anymore. It doesn't mean she doesn't care about you. She's just growing and thinking about what's best for her future.

Kelly: She's going to pay for this.

Jake: Kelly...

He goes to walk up to her but she back away

Kelly: NO! She can't just fire me and get away with it!

Jake: Kelly, please don't do something you'll regret. It'll not just hurt Loren but your rep as a manager as well.

Kelly walks to the door.

Kelly: We'll just see about that.

She leaves and once again slams the door. Jake pulls out his phone and dials a number.

Jake: It's me. We have a problem. I need it fixed immediately.
