You asked me today
In your pretty white coat
"Do you trust me?"
And I didn't say a word
"I made a commitment to be here
As long as you need.
It's my job"
And I didn't say a word
"You can tell me anything"
"I promise"
And I didn't say a word
"What can I do to make you
Trust me?"
I shrank down in my chair
Lowered my gaze from my hands
To the ground
And said
"Nothing"
