I was taking a nap on a fine Friday afternoon when I was woken up by a call. A girl cannot even have a afternoon nap in this city. I looked at the screen. It was Case. "I was sleeping you know" I said picking up the phone. "When are you not sleeping?" "Very funny..this better be important" "I wanted to ask that what are you wearing tonight?" "Am wearing a gown...that black one I had bought for the play last year" "Umm nice..I have still not decided" she said panicking. "Come on Case you have like three hours..." I was damn sleepy. "Only three hours" she shrieked. "Chill Case" "Hmm okay I'll see what can I do" She hung up and I went back to my sleep. My eyes opened with a loud noise at my door. I got up and opened it. It was mom. "Its 5 honey..don't you need to get ready?" "Yes mom..I was sleeping..I just lost track of the time" "When is Jake picking you up?" "At 6" "Then get ready fast"
I was almost ready when I heard the doorbell ring. He is always on time. I took a last look at the mirror...grabbed my purse and went down. He was sitting in the living room dressed as a magician. He looked great. His eyes widened as it shifted to me. "Oh you're here...I was telling Jake that he has perfectly chosen his costume..he does magic on every girl" she winked. I hope she didn't me. I kissed mom goodbye and then we left.
We arrived at Bianca's place quite fast. I didn't know she stayed so close to my house. "So the great magician Jake Brian is ready to play his tricks today?" I smirked. "Yeah I have got magic with myself too" "What magic?" "You..you look magical baby doll" I smiled trying to hide the blush that had started to crawl into my face. Thank goodness for the dim lighting...I was saved. "Hey Jake" Tony called. He was dressed as Charlie Chaplin. He looked kinda funny. "I'll be right back" he whispered and disappeared into the crowd. I saw Mel and Case waving at me. "So you have started making entrances with him too huh?" Mel smirked. I just rolled my eyes. "Good that you did..people now really started questioning whether Jake is actually dating Bianca especially after that day in the field" Case chirped. "Okay but I didn't intend that" "Aww but we did" Case smiled. Evilish little friends I've got. They soon took the dance floor. I stood near the bar waiting for Jake. I couldn't find him. "Hey gorgeous" I heard Max's voice. "Hey Max" I smiled. "Dance?" "Umm okay" I took his hand. We walked towards the dance floor. Max put his arms around my waist. I felt a bit uncomfortable...actually a quite. "Keep your hands off her" Jake whispered softly but firmly into Max's ears and removed his hands from me. Max was quite taken aback. "Umm am sorry Alice..if you didn't feel right" Max immediately apologised. He was actually sorry. "Its okay Max...." Before I could complete Jake pulled me away from the crowd. "Jake you need to calm down" "I know..or else I might just.." he looked at Max angrily. "Take this and calm yourself down" I said handing him a drink. "Yeah thanks"
"Jaakkeee you're here...you came!" Bianca came and hugged him. She completely ignored me. "Umm I asked you to do something that day" he said budging her. She looked at me scowled and left. She has some serious issues with me. "What were you talking about?" I asked Jake. "Oh nothing..just a piece of my suggestion to her" he winked. "You kinda overreacted there in the dance floor you know" I said. "Oh not at all...good for him that he didn't do anything more or else this would have been the last party of his life" I was quiet. It sounded scary. "You joking right?" I asked fingers crossed. "Do I look like I am joking baby doll?" I looked at his serious face. He looked far from like he is kidding. I saw his fist tighten and I saw his eyes fixed on Max. "Lets go out in the garden" I said before he actually does whatever he is thinking of. "Good idea" he said taking my hands and leading me out. "You have one big temper Jake" I said. "Oh you have no idea baby doll" he smirked. "Good that I don't" "True...I don't want you to know it" "So you not going to visit the old age home this Sunday?" I asked trying to divert his mind. "No. They have gone for vacation." "Woah..who funds that old age home?" "I do..I mean my dad transfers a lot of cash into my account so it's better to put it to good use rather than wasting it on drinks and women like him" Great Alice now you reminded him of his father. I was quiet as I didn't know what else to say. "So baby doll you never talk about your father?" "Umm he left mom when I was small...for another woman ofcourse" "Oh sorry" "Its okay Jake...I didn't need such a father or a man in fact in my life" "Yeah people have stopped being loyal these days" "Exactly that's why it's difficult to trust anyone" "You can trust me baby doll" he said holding my hand. "I know" I smiled. I didn't know in which way he meant but still it sounded good.
"So I'll pick you up in the morning?" He asked as he stopped near my house. "Yeah a lot of work to do" "Yes but it'll be fun" he winked. "I agree"
I opened the front door..Jake was still there. Only when I closed the door I heard him drive off. So protective he is. I saw mom busy in her work. "You're up so late?" I asked. "Had work and was waiting for you...anyways how was the party?" "Good" "Max was there too?" "Yeah" I said. Whatever happened in the dance floor came flashing in front of me. "I got something for you from Boston..I forgot to gave you" she said handing me a box. I opened it. "Oh mom it's beautiful" I said. It was a beautiful locket.

"Thank you mom " I hugged her. "Open the locket" she said. I opened and saw her picture inside. "This way I'll always be with you" she kissed my forehead. "I love you mom" "I love you too..now go to bed..it's quite late"
I got changed and tried to sleep amidst the same occurring thoughts. It was clear that I had started to feel something for Jake and that will be the end of me.
