Song: Follow You by Bring Me The Horizon (I will never get tired of this album tbh)

"It's the first week of September," Ella squeals and claps her hands. "You know what that means!"

Tyler takes a sip of his water before leaning over the table. "I'm unaware."

Ella invited Tyler and I over for dinner, because she didn't want to be alone. Which is understandable. I would've just taken her home with me, but she has school the rest of the week.

Ella leans on her elbow and grins at Tyler. "I forgot you're new here," she says jokingly. "My birthday is in September. Like next weekend September. Which also means I'll be fifteen and I can finally get my permit!"

"Oh, that means I get to teach her how to drive," Tyler pipes in.

"Yes!" Ella shouts.

I shake my head quickly. "Nope, that's not happening. They have instructors for that."

Tyler raises a brow from across the table. "Those instructors are expensive. I can easily teach her, Maggie. I'm not a bad driver, am I?"

"No," I say quickly. "But you don't necessarily follow all the rules either."

"Okay, like what?"

I go through my head and pick a few things. "You don't come to a complete stop at a stop sign, you rarely signal when changing lanes, and when you go into a turning lane, you wait until the last second to get over and cross over a solid line. You're not supposed to do that."

Tyler snorts and waves it off. "Is that it?"

"What do you mean is that it?"

He grins at me lazily. "Those are such small things. At least I don't cut people off, speed, and run red lights."

My eyes widen. "Why the hell would you even think about doing that?"

"Who hasn't?" He defends. "Just because I've thought about it, doesn't mean I'd ever do it. Well, except one time I accidentally ran a red light and those stupid traffic cameras picked it up. It changed so fast."

I cross my arms over my chest. "I'm sure it did."

"You guys fight like an old married couple," Ella says and then smiles. "I can't wait to be a part of it."

A smile fights its way on my lips and I shake my head. "Don't let Tyler's insanity rub off on you. I need you in one piece."

Ella looks to Tyler. "So you'll teach me then?"

Tyler nods with a smile. "I'll take you to get your permit too if you want. Are you ready?"

She tilts her hand back and forth. "Sort of. I have to finish taking the drug and alcohol course. I'm almost done though. Then I wanna read the book again. I should definitely be ready by my birthday. Or the Monday after my birthday I should say."

"I work on Monday's after class, so we'll take you driving when I get home." I made sure to put emphasis on the we'll so Tyler knows we're teaching her together.

Tyler just grins at me. "Anything for you."

I would've thought that was sweet if it weren't for the grin. So I level a glare at him.
