--- Sang's Pov ---
We'd been riding in the car for a few hours now on our way to go save Gabriel and this alleged 'Mr. Blackbourne' I'd yet to meet. He was a big part of this group, apparently. I'd been told Mr. Blackbourne had been kidnapped by a strange man, which made me think of the stories my mother-ahem-stepmother used to tell me whenever I left the house, even just to get the mail.
Gabriel and Victor, however, went missing the night they found Mr. Blackbourne. But I was at Nathan's house instead of the hospital, so I never got to meet him. Gabriel, Victor, and Mr. Blackbourne were taken by a few extraordinary men, as Victor later described them when he returned twelve hours ago.
I had a feeling "extraordinary" and "strange" were not the words they used with each other when they described these men.
Believe me, I knew they're hiding things from me and it was more than just about this alleged 'Academy' of theirs. From what I'd overheard, the boys had called the men who took Gabriel and Victor "monsters" and "bloodsuckers". Don't get me wrong, I'd been in love with mythological stories of gods, goddess, vampires, dwarves, and other mythical creatures, but could I believe that they were using the insults literally?
No, that couldn't be. Mythological creatures couldn't be real.
"Cupcake, we're here," Luke said, bringing my focus back to my surroundings. I looked outside to see a tall building with stairs leading up to a porch and a door.
"We're going to go in, but we should be out in no time. If you run into some sort of emergency, press any of our apps and we'll be out here with you, no matter what."
I answered him with a nod and Kota, Victor, and him got out of the car. I got on my knees as I watched out the back window as North, Silas, and Nathan stood around North's car, having what appeared to be a heated discussion. They didn't seem mad at one another, but instead at the people in the house.
Feeling nosy, I rolled down my window slightly, allowing me to overhear what they were talking about.
"Okay, so Victor said that there could be a lot of people, but that they were talking about going home soon. That was before he could escape and Sean killed the man. How many would you estimate to be in there?" Kota asked, turning to Victor.
"I'd say about four people, not including Gabriel, Mr. Blackbourne, and Akuma, of course."
"We can handle them easily then, right Kota?" Nathan asked, a confident look in his eyes.
Kota nodded with a calculating expression.
"Okay, so what's the plan here?" Luke asked, rubbing his hands in front of him.
"The best course of action is to get them both out alive. But if we can't we need to save-."
I couldn't listen anymore. I didn't want to think about an ending where not all of them survived. Even though I didn't know Mr. Blackbourne yet, I felt like I did from the stories the boys told me at our many sleepovers.
Ever since my father ran off and disappeared on my sister and me six months ago, I'd slowly tried to open up to the world and in the last month, I'd come to think of these boys as good friends. But when they found out that my home life was not as pleasant as they may have thought when I came to Kota's home barely able to speak from the vinegar I was forced to drink, or when I was caught kneeling in piles of rice in the kitchen, they decided to take me into their broken family as best as they could. When I had to go back to my house for my things while the boys were busy, my stepmother decided that 'running away with a boy' deserved being tied to a stool and burned by a scalding hot shower. This was when the boys decided amongst themselves that I wouldn't be going back there again, and decided they would spend their nights off staying with me at Nathan's empty house.
