A/N: Finally a Gabriel chapter! Kinda short this time, too. Still, I hope you enjoy it all the same :D
------------------------
---- Gabriel's Pov ----
"Why does he have to be a fucking idiot sometimes?" I asked myself. I couldn't help but to let out a broken sob after I left the bedroom. "He didn't have to rub it in that I seem to be everyone's last choice, Sang's included. What was he trying to accomplish? Making me feel bad about myself? He gets an A+ in that."
I huffed, feeling ridiculous as I continued to talk to myself, "What was that thing I saw around him, too. I thought I was seeing things when we were in the living room, but now I know the glow around him wasn't my imagination." It appeared red when we were downstairs and were arguing, but the color suddenly spiked to a darker red before turning blue right before I left him inside.
'What does this mean? Is this part of being a changeling? Could this be my gift? Seeing colors around people? That sounds like a stupid fucking gift to me...'
I was startled out of my thoughts when I heard a door slam shut. I looked up to find Sang leaning on her own door, visibly upset. The longer I looked at her, the more I noticed this faint glow around her, similar to the one I saw around Nikolai. Hers, however, was a mix of different colors. There was a faint patch of red buried inside, but it was mostly light blues and dark purples. However, just when I was about to call out to her, she pushed off her door and walked down the hall, a clear mission in her head.
It was then I realized I could hear voices in the room she left. Creeping over to the door, I listened closer to the conversation.
"What just happen?" Kota asked.
"I don't know. One minute we're having a conversation and the next minute she's getting all pissed off," Nathan grumbled.
"What got her on the topic of Olivia and her men, is my question. It's not like we were talking about anything that could have led her to the topic," Kota said.
"Is it possible that tonight's the night for all men to be fucking stupid?" I asked, pushing the door open.
Both boys looked spooked, which would have made me laugh if not for the sour mood I was in.
"What?" Nathan asked.
"First Nikolai and then you two. You can't just let people feel the way they do and let them be confused for a few fucking seconds. You can't expect us all to know what we want like you guys apparently do."
"Are you okay, Gabriel?" Kota asked softly with a concerned expression.
"Yeah, you look a little blue." Nathan said.
"And you look yellow and orange. What's your point?" I asked, tired.
"What do you mean?" Kota asked.
"Right there." I waved my hands in his general vicinity, "You're glowing orange and yellow."
"Are you trying to say that you can see colors around us?" Kota questioned, trying to clarify himself.
"Yes!" I huffed. "What don't you get about that!"
"It's just... You don't hear about someone being able to associate colors with people every day..." Kota trailed off. "It's called Synesthesia, or Ideasthesia, as some consider it. The condition itself is considered "rare" since only 1 in every 2000 people in world have been found with a variation with it. It involves the process of associating colors, feelings, sounds, and tastes with experiences like memories, art, or simple things like the alphabet and numbers. You're associating emotions with colors, otherwise known as seeing a person's aura."
"That's what it is? I wasn't sure what I was seeing, really. I was going to ask Cody about it in the morning," I said.
"I'd still do that, but I think I could be correct about this," Kota smiled.
"Now why are you in here?" Nathan asked, changing the subject abruptly.
"Nikolai told Sang that I might like her," I stated.
They both gasped and their eyes widened in surprise.
"Why would he do that?" Nathan inquired.
"I think he was angry that he wasn't the only one that had my attention. The problem is that he took it way too far. He started talking about how I would be the last one she would ever pick to be with and that you guys even wanted to leave me behind, so why would she stick with me, either? Why would he say all that to me? I thought he really liked me." I started to tear up again as the words were piercing my heart yet again as I repeated them in my head.
"He doesn't know what he's talking about," Kota insisted, getting up and engulfing me in a hug. "You're wanted. We want you in our family and you're more of a catch then Nathan and I."
"Hey, speak for yourself," Nathan joked before sobering again as he too brought me into a hug. "Sorry if we aren't as good as Luke is with this, but we're trying. I think the fact that he said all that stuff is proof that he cares about you."
"What?" I asked, leaning back so I could see his face before putting a hand to his forehead. "Are you feeling okay? Did you watch too many zombie romance movies before you came here? How does being a total fucking asshole mean that he cares about me?"
"Shh, you promised that we wouldn't talk about those movies..." he said, laughing. "But I think he's trying to convince you that he's all you need."
"Nathan's right. We weren't reliable for you when you needed us the most, so he's trying to take advantage of that, and use it against you. He had you alone, and now he doesn't know what to do when your attention is split with all of us around. Add in the fact that Sang is here too, and you get the kind of comments he gave you tonight," Kota reasoned.
"It's obvious that he cares about you. But he's trying to turn you against us, isn't he?" Nathan asked.
"Nathan's right. He got you riled up before the family meeting, so you ended up angry with us. Then you brush Luke off when he was trying to help you. I mean, can Luke make it anymore that he-." Nathan stopped Kota mid-sentence by placing a hand over Kota's mouth.
"What Kota means to say is that Nikolai's trying to pit you against us, and he's trying to use Sang as an excuse to do it."
'They can't be serious... Nikolai? Turning me against them? He barely talks about them, besides the fact that they almost left me here. If anyone can turn me against my team, it's going to be no one's fault but their own."
"You could be right... but I'm sick of focusing on my stupid problems. I want to know what you did to make Sang cry," I stated sternly. Sure, I exaggerated a little, but she did look like she was on the verge of tears.
"She was crying?" Nathan asked, his eyes widening. "Maybe I should go find her and make sure she was alright."
"Go ahead. If you can, convince her to come back up here so we can all get some sleep, alright?" Kota suggested.
"Will do," Nathan saluted, chuckling.
"Can I sleep in here? I don't exactly want to go back there tonight. Not until he apologizes, at least," I asked. I felt like I was intruding, as if I wasn't a part of them anymore and I had to explain myself.
"Sure, you can sleep in the bed until Nathan comes back with Sang. Then you two can hash it out on who's going to take the bed."
We never did get the chance, as we both fell asleep quickly and weren't awakened until early morning.
------------------------
A/N: Basically, just explaining why Nathan didn't rush down the stairs after Sang, as well as what Gabriel's feeling.
The next chapter is Sang's and we'll find out who woke her and Nathan up, possibly seeing the fact that he fell asleep with his finger in her mouth! :D
