Chains

Finally the time comes
The most important part
But then they have to go
And the rest of us are stuck
Is it anger like you said
Or is it pain like I feel
Our reasons were different
Though part of mine was yours
Though I try so hard to understand the ones not like us
It's hard for me to see
Why they are so held back and chained up
But it must be hard to know
Why we are chained up as well
The rest of us were stuck
And there was nothing to distract us then
We remembered the chains that held us all apart
I remembered the way I tugged on the wall to get to them all
How it yanked back at me
How it brought me back down.
I run my fingers through my hair,
Trying to understand
That while I'm chained to a wall
Other people control their chains
And sometimes
They are the ones who control the chains
So I turn my head so you won't see
And he reaches over to comfort me
I just can't wait for the day
We can all break free
