Catalina.
"Maman?!" I yelled frantically.
The confused and terrified look that flashed quickly across her eyes was followed by a bid to remove the oxygen tubes. She began to claw at the tubes running from her body, ripping one from the crook of her arm causing blood to start flowing from it.
"It's okay, you're safe." I pleaded with her as I carefully inserted the tube back in. I quickly paged the nurses and doctor from the little monitor on the wall and turned my attention back to her.
She calmed down considerably and immediately tried to speak but it came out in a scratchy, garbled mess. I filled some cool water from the pitcher at her bedside and helped her drink it down. After 3 cups, she was able to steady her words.
"Jimena...," she paused,"Where am I?"
"In the hospital maman," I said slowly,"Do you remember anything at all?"
"I remember talking to Cataleya.... but then nothing after that. It's all blank...However....I did hear yours and Javier's voice in broken pieces....You said something about a grandchild."
"What's the matter? Is everything alright Dr Hernandez?" Dr Bentham sped into the room. He looked taken aback when Maman's eyes stared curiously back at his.
"Mrs Hernandez...I," he sputtered, obviously confused. Collecting himself rather quickly, he rushed to her and began preforming the necessary tests.
"Eyes are good, responses are fair, heartbeat is normal. Can you lift your arms Mrs Hernandez?" She did so.
"Great, great and your legs?" She did the same.
"Perfect. So far nothing seems to be damaged as I would've thought."
"I believe her speech is a bit slurred," I interjected.
"If so then it is quite normal. I predict that in a few days it would return to its regular state." He said cheerily.
"Tell me Mrs Hernandez, how are you feeling?"
"I am feeling rather drained," she slowly admitted,"My throat hurts and my head feels as if someone hit me with a glass bottle."
"I think some iron supplements should do the trick. As for your headaches you'll have to wait them out I'm afraid." He said kindly,"Dr Hernandez would you like me to contact your family?"
"Yes thank you. In all the confusion I forgot to call them."
"Okay no problem. I'll be sending the nurse to take some blood samples so we could run some more tests." He left the room soon after leaving me to gather my thoughts as my mother just closed her eyes again.
"I remember what you said now," she said as a faint smile graced her face.
"And what is that?" I asked.
"Jimena you are pregnant," her eyes stared intently at me. I buried my face in my hands to hide my giant smile and simply nodded my head.
"I am so happy for you and Cristiano. You two are already the best parents to Junior, I know it will only get better with this baby," she took my hand and squeezed it.
"But Junior is 5 now, I don't know much about handling a baby," I confessed.
"You'll learn Jimena, it takes time and trust me you wouldn't be alone." she said.
..................................
"Ma," Javier shouted. He scooped her up in his arms, not even avoiding all the tubes coming out of her. She winced in obvious pain but managed to muster enough strength to give him back a one arm squeeze.
"Javier you're hurting her," I told him quietly.
"Oops...Sorry ma," he half grinned, half cried.
"It's okay dear, how are you?" She asked.
"Better....extremely relieved now. I feel as if I'm breathing easier now." He admitted jovially. Behind him, Carima and Josep entered the room silently, followed closely by Sariena and Cataleya.
"Mom," Cataleya cried and hugged her tightly. Carima followed tearfully while Josep caved in afterwards and quietly joined the group hug.
"Don't scare us like that ever again," Josep scolded, sniffling loudly
"I wouldn't my dear," she responded, stroking his hair,"I promise."
"How are you feeling Mom?" Sariena asked, giving her a tight hug as well.
"Tired and a bit uncomfortable," Mom admitted,"But better than how I was feeling an hour ago. Leya why are you crying?"
"Nothing mom," Cataleya replied tearfully, using a handkerchief to wipe away the tears that streamed down her face. Carima and I exchaned brief glances and sighed in relief.
Cristiano suddenly appeared at the doorway, holding a sleeping Junior in one arm and carrying Chrysa in her carseat in the other. He huddled over to my side and I carefully took Junior into my arms. His eyes flickered a bit but eventually he drifted back into a deep sleep. Cris rested Chrysa onto the sofa and turned to face Maman. He gave her a small smile and a kiss on the cheek which she returned with a squeeze on his arm.
"I trust that you are feeling better Mom?" He asked.
"I supposed better than I was before," she chuckled lightly,"Enough about me, child, have you two told everyone else the news?"
"We were more worried about you I'm afraid," Cris laughed.
"What news?" All of them blurted out at the same time. I laughed while Cris continued to smile. We glanced at each other and he gave me a slight nod of the head meaning that I should tell them instead of him.
"I'm pregnant," I said with a small shrug of the shoulder.
It was a split second to let the information soak in before Carima let out a short, but ear splitting scream that caused Josep to jump in surprise. Nevertheless she and Sariena both ran to hug me, pushing Cataleya out of the way although she the was closest to me.
"Big sis is having a baby!!!" Carima shouted.
"I'm so happy for you!" Sariena cried.
"Congrats bro," Javier hugged Cris, while Joachim clapped him on the back.
"I'm going to have another niece or nephew to spoil," Josep said happily, sitting down next to Maman's bedside.
"Can I please get to hug my pregnant sister or do I have to put my name on a waiting list?" Cataleya complained miserably. Carima and Sariena stepped back giddly and Leya finally got to hug me tightly.
"Can you too please give the child a proper name? I know you two are a high profile celebrity couple and all but please don't name the child something that will get them teased in school, I beg you." Leya begged earnestly making Cris and Maman laugh.
"We promise," I chuckled,"Also for the next six months at least, please do not tell anyone. I really would like to keep this private for as long as I can. The media can be a bit of a hassle to deal with and I don't want to be pregnant and stressed."
"Of course we wouldn't tell anyone, we wouldn't dare risk your safety." Javier assured me,"I'll make sure my baby sis is comfortable."
"We all will," Carima chimed in happily.
"See my dear you have nothing to worry about." Maman smiled at Cris and I with pride.
