Cristiano.
"Passengers please fasten your seatbelts, we are about to begin the descent," The pilot said over the intercom system.
I nudged Catalina gently. She awoke with a start, curly hair falling messily but somehow perfectly around her shoulders, reading glasses resting pecariously on her nose and looked at me with a puzzled, sleepy face that was so ridiculously cute.
"We're about to land," I said simply.
She nodded, gently lifting a sleeping Junior from her lap and placed him in his seat, buckling his seatbelt, making sure it was secure. She then went on to fix hers quickly and placed her hair in a bun to keep it out of her way
"Are you excited to return home?" I asked as the flight attendants flitted up and down the aisle making sure everyone had on their seatbelts.
"Very much so. I haven't seen my family in a long time. I miss them so much and I'm glad you two are here with me, finally I can introduce my family to two of the most important people in my life."
I smiled and kissed her on those plump lips. She smiled back at me, revealing those dimples that only appear once every blue moon.
We landed safely at the airport fifteen minutes later. I collected our bags from the overhang while Catalina carried a still sleeping Junior in her arms. Coming out of the crowded airport after passing through Customs with six suitcases, we were pushed into the equally crowded terminal that was almost filled to capacity, barely allowing cars to pass and brimming with a number of different languages spoken rapidly and at the same time.
"Ah here's our car, finally," Catalina said after 30 minutes of waiting. A man wearing a neatly tailored suit and sunglasses handed over the keys of the Audi I guess is ours for the vacation.
"Thank you so much James," Catalina said, shaking the man's hand
"No problem, Dr Hernandez, the organization is willing to lend you any of its cars," He said politely. She nodded and he bowed away, disappearing into the crowd of people.
By this time Junior woke up with a start. He took in his surroundings silently, rubbing his little eyes, then asked to be let down to walk.
"Are we in Brazil, Lina?" He asked staring at a couple who both sported pink and red mohawks and spoke in a lanuage I belive was dutch.
"Yes we are Junior, and we're going to have so much fun for these two weeks"
"Oh okay, can we go now? Those people are scaring me," He said, clinging to my leg. I laughed along with Catalina and placed him gently in the car which thankfully had a kidseat.
After loading all the luggage into the car, I sat in the passenger side while Catalina started the car.
We drove through the city passing a series of skyscraper after skyscraper for fifteen minutes until the scenery began to change. Large buildings turned into quaint houses as we began to near the residential areas of the city.
Finally we arrived at a long winding driveway that was fenced by a strong metal railing, neatly cut hedges and vibrant flowerbeds.
The guard at his booth looked away from his paper and his face registered genuine shock at the sight of Catalina.
"Ms Hernandez, we haven't seen you around these parts in ages," He said, mouth still slightly opened in shock.
She quietly laughed, outstretching her hand for him to shake it.
"Well Hector I'm here, I'm back in my hometown," She said with a smile. He opened the gate and let us through with a nod and a little smile.
She drove slowly, as if taking in everything about this place and then parked infront of the two car garage at the end of the brick driveway.
