"One dead I'm afraid Captain Ramirez," Catalina's voice full of sympathy explained to the head of the Madrid Police Department,"Mr Oscar de Oliviera was the driver of the Real Madrid team bus. His wife and children were contacted and they are being escorted here now."
"The windows on the buses are heavily reinforced but first two explosions probably weakened them immensely." The captain hung his head,"TSU said they found evidence that he was most likely the closest to the spot where the bombs went off. Officers also believe that he was thrown into the windshield after the second explosion."
"Yes he suffered severe trauma to the head among other minor injuries and ended up bleeding heavily into the space between the skull and the brain." Catalina sighed, writing down something on what looked like a form.
"Two patients, senior security personnel for the Bernabeu Mr Michel Sciglia and Mr Tamar Alonso both have had one of their limbs amputated due to extremely severe nerve and tissue damage which rendered them practically useless according to Dr Bacchus," Catalina continued with a tired look plastered on her face,"Three patients are still in Intensive Care, with one Amara Tuschel, a freelance photographer, clinging to her life in the High Dependency Unit as we speak. One patient, Fabio Coentrao is currently in the Burn Ward nursing second degree burns to his jaw, neck and chest area. Another patient, player Dennis Suarez had to undergo emergency surgery to repair the extensive damage in his right ankle."
"And everyone else who were affected? Are they okay and stable now Dr Hernandez?" The dark haired policeman asked, jotting down everything that Catalina was saying.
"I can say for sure physically they are ok, a few cuts and bruises here and there but mentally and emotionally Captain Ramirez I am not quite sure how these individuals are faring," Catalina confessed, sending a sympathetic look my way,"I have seen their expressions and the look in their eyes. These patients are terrified and they don't know how to process it nor deal with their emotions at the moment."
"How do you propose they handle something like this?"
"Speaking from my personal experiences," Catalina started,"This is probably one of the most frightening situations to ever have to suffer through. But, as you might have encountered before, persons tend to react in a different manner in each instance. I may react differently from you Captain Ramirez and you may react differently to him. That is why I believe that it is in everyone's best interest that each of these patients undergo a psychological evaluation before any other form of rehabilitation is done."
"I agree with you completely. I will personally see to that," Captain Ramirez said, checking his watch,"I have a meeting with the security minister and the King in ten minutes, then we are hoping hold a press conference infront of Cibeles. I was made aware that you will be there to address the public as well?"
"Yes the minister had already contacted me," Catalina said in a quiet voice,"Oh and Captain Ramirez..."
"Yes?"He asked as he was halfway out the door.
"Please find the persons responsible for this,"
"I will," He said in an angry voice, leaving the room to just the two of us.
"Come here," she gestured for me to sit in the swivel chair facing her as she typed away at her laptop. With a final click of the mouse, she shut down the screen and ran her hands through her hair, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"How is it?" She asked, eyeing my bandaged left hand warily.
"Far better than before," I tried to make the atmosphere lighter for her sake.
