So, like I mentioned before we have a surprise chapter!! I've gathered some advice from friends around the country and even in Europe and Australia and compiled a short but sweet chapter. Here we go!!
Gym Class
Girls, and guys; gym isn't the olympics!!! I can't stress how important it is that you do not push yourself beyond your physical limits.
Just because the really fit kid can run a mile in 5 minutes, does not mean that your mile has to be that short.
I'm a reasonably fit person; playing several sports and I run a 12 minute mile, so do not rush yourself (but set a reasonable goal!)
Also, it's not to show off your clothing or to have people make fun of you. (There will be a few girls and guys who are complete d bags, but that's their problem.) Ignore them, and do your best!
Drivers Education (pt 1)
It's a long process that happens in a short amount of time. For me, I had ten, three hour classes after school, three days a week.
Then after that, I had to drive with my instructor for ten hours, totaling it out to about 20 class hours.I had the hardest time staying awake, and focusing on almost everything. But, i accredit that to not bring water, food or money to buy snacks. If you bring a snack it will help keep you awake, and give you more energy.
Also, bring lots of water, you'll need it. Especially if it's hot, or you're not feeling well, staying hydrated it important.
(Pt 2)
The driving part isn't hard at all. I hopped into a Corolla and drove my first time ever. I learned the basics, parking, backing up, headlights, blinkers etc. it isn't hard, as long as you actually believe that you can do it.
Sounds dumb, but it true! If you're nervous about driving, take deep breaths and use your coping strategy. (For me that's sarcastic humor) for you it could be leg tapping or nervous laughter!!
Absorb what your instructor is telling you, it will make you learn faster, and you'll be able to do cool stuff!
Money
In high school we have copious amounts of vending machines. Some for food, others for milk, juice or muscle milk--and some for waters, Powerade and Gatorade. It's always nice to have a nice cool drink on a blistering hot day, or if your school sells coffee, then you can get yourself a treat, and have a warm cup o' joe on a snowy morning.
We also have ice creams, and special made salads that cost a bit more than a normal lunch, but it's totally worth the extra .50-1.00$.
It's also nice to have a bit of 'mooley' in case you want to hang out with friends after school, and get a snack.
Sleep is Key
Make sure you get 8 hours of sleep minimum. Science has proven that teenagers function better on 8 hours of sleep rather that 7, or 6. It's also proven that our brains aren't fully awake until 10:00, so, the more sleep you get; the better for your body.
During the summer, we stay up till crazy hours. Binge watching The Gilmore Girls and eating chips, scarfing all the chocolate....but, now that school is nearing, start going to bed at your normal time. Once your body begins to regulate itself, and reset the circadian rhythms, you'll sleep well nearly every single night!
(Plus it's proven that people who sleep decent hours, do better on tests and are more social.)
Music
Factoid; it's proven that if you listen to classical music it'll make your IQ increase by a few points.
But, if you don't like classical, it also helps if you just pop on a song and listen to it to help pass the dreaded thing called "80 full minutes of brain melting psychology lectures."
So, ending on a good note!! Every one likes music right??? Whats your favorite band(s) or solo artists?!! (My favorite band at the moment is The 1975.)
Yours,
~M
(Ps: thanks to Kylie from U.K., Glenn from Australia, Mia from California, Mikeal from Florida, Dmitri from Russia and Jennifer from Colorado!! Comment if you'd ever like to be contacted for a chapter like this!!!) Xx
