*Flashback*

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen" Father Peters voice boomed through the now quiet room, everyone hummed a gentle 'amen.'

"Victor, keep your chin up" my mother scolded me as I impatiently paid attention to my shoes only.
How am I supposed to know what any of this means? I am only a boy, I can't even comprehend most of he words Father Peter just shouted to the agreeing community around me.

"Mike!" My mother scolded "do you want your father to take you out of here?" My mother warned. Mike quickly stopped flipping through the pages of my mothers Bible.

My mother isn't overly strict, but if we misbehave in church, there's no way we'll get away with it.
I managed to suffer through the next hour without getting scolded again, solely because I was able to remind myself that once this service was over, I will be able to hang out with my very best friend, Craig.

Craig is my age, we're in the same grade at school and his mom is friends with my mom. After church we get to play together at the park while our moms talk.

Craig is my very best friend, our favorite thing to do is pretend we're ninjas. We run around the park, defeating bad guys with our samurai swords (sticks), jumping around the booby traps, climbing trees.

I really hope I'm his best friend too.

*End of Flashback*
(Vic's POV)

"Vic? I know you're busy, honey, but could you please answer. I want to meet up for lunch sometime, you've canceled the past three times we've made plans... Call me back, I love you" I felt a ping of guilt as I heard my mothers tired voice on voicemail.

I've been ignoring her calls. Why? I'm not sure. I feel so disconnected.

We've been trying to arrange for lunch together for a month or two. The only person in my family I really make an effort with is Mike, and that's only because if I didn't make an effort, he wouldn't either.

I wrapped myself in my blankets even tighter, squeezing my eyes shut. I don't want to get out of bed, I don't want to move.

After ten minutes of coaxing myself out of bed, I was finally up.. And ready to fall back into bed again.

I can't be late for work.

I work at a tiny, old, run down book store that is almost out of business. If it wasn't for the lack of customers and staff, I probably wouldn't have gotten the job.
Overall, the job is pretty easy, pays a little more than minimum wage, which is just enough to pay rent for my one bedroom apartment.
I slowly walked down the short hall and Into my living room. It's not a fancy large apartment, but it's not in terrible condition either. I like it here.

"Good morning" I heard myself speak in my tired voice as my fingers lingered on the button that read "ON"
I watched as the large tank lit up and I was able to see each of my six fish.

Pathetic, I know.
These fish are probably my best friends, they have their own diverse personalities, the way they interact with each other is remarkable.
Saying that they are my friends, may sound sad.
