Things Just Happen

I turned on my side, waking up slowly. I really didn't want to just wake right up right now. I was afraid of what I'd wake up to.

Soul and I... No, we didn't sleep together. My heart hammered in fear just at the thought of it. No, but he did spend the night. In the guest room next door.

I wondered how awkward things would be when we woke up. Would he act like it never happened? Would he act like a boyfriend? I was nervous.

It was Sunday; no school. Which was another let-down. I actually kind of wanted to go today.

With a groan, I sat up. I looked up as my bedroom door opened, revealing Soul. "Hey." I smiled calmly. He smiled back. "Morning." A comfortable silence enveloped the room. "I'll go make breakfast. How do pancakes sound?" I offered, getting out of bed. He grinned his stellar grin. "Sounds amazing."

I met Soul in the doorway. He smiled and pushed a strand of hair from my face. He chuckled, rolling his eyes. "What?" I asked as he put his hands on my waist, and I retaliated with wrapping my arms around his neck. "Just... Thinking." He replied. I raised a brow. "About what?" He smirked and kissed my forehead. "This." A blush tinted my tan skin, a sheepish smile spread on my lips.

Soul laughed and took hold of my hand. "Come on. Breakfast is downstairs, not up here." He said, starting downstairs. As soon as his grip on my hand loosened, my heart fell and the tingly feeling I got from him disappeared.

I quickly followed him downstairs and into the kitchen, where we prepared breakfast together.

"Gotcha!"

Soul's hand met my face, covering me with whipped cream. I gaped, licking it away from my lips. I quickly wiped my face with a rag. Soul had his back turned to me, laughing.

I quickly grabbed the whipped cream, silently poured it into my hand, then pushed it against his face. He turned sharply with a gasp. "Damn, girl!" He exclaim. I smirked. "Let me help you."

My lips met his before Soul could ask what I meant. Soul stiffened for a nanosecond before relaxing, chuckling. "Thanks for the help." I blushed again, biting the inside of my cheek.

I suddenly wanted to ask Soul if he cared about Maka's opinion about our relationship, but I decided against it. Not only would it totally ruin the mood, but I really didn't want to bring her up in the first place.

The pancakes were finished and settled on our plates. We ate in a comfortable silence.

After breakfast, we decided to watch a couple of movies on the couch. We started off with Finding Nemo. Of course, a wonderful classic. But I ended up asleep, my head in Soul's lap, after half of it.

Soul's POV

I smiled down at Claire. She was asleep peacefully. Of course, now, I wasn't paying any attention to the movie at all. My world seemed to be focused solely on Claire.

Her hands grasped my red shirt and I frowned. She looked upset in her sleep, her brows furrowed, frown creasing her beautiful features. She began to mumble, and I only completely understood what she was saying when a tear fell from her eye;

"Come back, Mom! Please..."

My eyes watered and I blinked the tears away. I brushed my hand over her ear, petting her hair, until she settled and relaxed once more.

I sighed, deciding to carry her up to her bedroom. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and under her knees, surprised that she stayed asleep as I carries her upstairs.

Her bed still wasn't made, so I just pushed away the covers and lay her down. I pulled the blankets up to her shoulders and turned to leave.

Claire grabbed my hand, and I grunted in surprise. I turned sharply to her, her eyes watering with tears. "Please don't leave me..." She looked so fragile, so vulnerable and defenseless.

I smiled and nodded, curling up under the covers with her. I hugged her to my chest as she cried until we both fell asleep.

"Thank you... Soul..." Was the last thing I heard.

Claire's POV

I woke up to loud knocking. It was from the front door, and Soul hadn't seemed to have woken up. I silently got out of bed, surprised that I didn't wake Soul.

Whoever was at the door continued to pound on the door, magnifying my aggravation.

I swung open the door to meet an angry Maka. "What the hell?" I asked, stretching and yawning. Maka glared colder at me. "Where's Soul?" I set my jaw. "Here. Why?" Her glare almost turned menacing.

If you weren't someone like me.

"Why is he here?" I leaned against the doorframe calmly. "Because he doesn't have to have permission to do what he wants." She growled, clenching her fist. "Why is he here with you?" Her voice came out as a growl. I just smiled.

Someone trudged down the stairs and I turned around. "Hey Claire?" He rubbed the back of his neck with a yawn. "Who ya talkin' to?" I paused, waiting for Soul to get to the door. "It's Maka." My expression was calm, completely normal. Soul sighed. "Jesus..." Soul mumbled.

"Hey Maka." Maka didn't say anything for a while. I was somewhat surprised that he'd be so calm. "You..." She closed her eyes and set her jaw. "Spent the night here?" She opened her eyes. "Yeah... We're... A couple... Now." He looked concerned. A little, not too much, but concerned. "And you didn't bother to tell me this?" He gave an exasperated grunt. "You were home all last night! You didn't come to the party with me last night and I came here with Claire! I didn't exactly have time to tell you that we got together!"

Maka was quiet. "You're right. Whatever." She started down the stairs. "How'd you know I was here, Maka?" She stopped on the sidewalk. "I had a feeling you'd be here."
