Chapter Fourteen

Leila’s POV

It’s been a month now. A month since my best friend disappeared. It’s destroying me. I don’t know what to do and I don’t know who to trust anymore. I feel like it’s killing Harry inside being without her, they were so close. I know they like each other, they just never wanted to admit it. I mean Alisha had never had a boyfriend before, not even one of those you have when you’re 10 years old. She was always so quiet too. Look at me, making out like she’s gone forever, like she’d passed on. She’ll come back, she’ll turn up. I know she will.

I had a dream last night; it was more of nightmare actually. Alisha was there, and there were two dark figures. She was screaming and kicking. There was also a lot of swearing. I never saw their faces and it was a dark room. I only remember her, she was calling my name. Calling for my help. I couldn’t help her, I tried but I was so far away, I ran towards her but I never got any closer, she got further away. I shouted her name, I kept shouting but soon she was gone. She’d disappeared into the darkness. I shouted louder, I wouldn’t give up on her. It got darker and darker and soon I couldn’t see anything. I still kept shouting her name but my voice grew quieter no matter how loud I tried to shout. Then I heard a voice behind me. Someone was there, behind me. They quickly grabbed my throat and I screamed. That’s where I woke up. I’ve had this dream a few times, it’s becoming a nightly thing now, I’m worried about her. It was 5:58am, way too early to get up but I refused to go back to sleep. I made myself a cup of tea and sat and watched cartoons to help me forget the dream. But I couldn’t.

An hour passed and I got ready and headed to school escorted by my brother in his car. There was no way I was walking on my own, not why there were psychos around the area. The ride to school was pretty much just silence. My brother, Josh although I call him Joshua because I know he hates it, tried to break the silence but it just made it all the more awkward.

“Weather’s pretty nice today; I don’t know why you didn’t walk.” See, awkward.

          “Stop talking.”

“I’m just saying that the weather is nice. Its light out, nothing is going to happen to you.” He sounded sure, but I wasn’t taking any chances.

“You don’t know that. It was light out when Alisha left us and look what happened.”

          “I’m just saying-“

I cut him off, “Well don’t just say.” I searched my bag for my earphones, which I couldn’t find, which means I left them at home. Great!

          “Lost something?”

“My earphones. I must have left them on the kitchen table before we left.”

He reached for the storage compartment in front of me, “You mean these earphones?” He said as he pulled them out.

          “Yeah… Why were they-“

“You left them on the seat yesterday.”

“Ok thanks.” I smiled at him, connected them to my phone and put them in my ears. I scrolled through my songs and found one I was addicted to. Ellie Goulding, Burn. I almost wanted to sing along but I didn’t, that would be embarrassing. As we pulled through the school gates Josh pulled the car up to the path. “Thanks, bye Joshua!” I laughed.

“Hey, don’t call me that.” He said as he playfully punched my arm. “And remember, don’t get into trouble.” He smiled. “Now go! You’ll be late otherwise.”
