Amaryllis Roman

I felt a cool breeze against my skin, at first a light drift, but then cold air hit my body with an increasing force, each push stronger than the last.

"Up." Up? Up where?

I gasped as my eyes sprang open, my forehead drenched with sweat. I pushed my self up, suddenly feeling an uncomfortable jab in my side. Confused I looked down and opened my hand to reveal a flower.

But not just any flower, the flower of Poena.

It's vibrant rose colour stood out against my pale white sheets. I brought it up to my face and studied it. It's straight leaves fell low enough to touch the thorns, long and sharp that were poking out of the stem. They were atleast an inch long, maybe more.

No wonder I felt a poke.

This isn't heaven, and doesn't seem much like hell, I observed looking around my room. So I didn't die? Clearly with the trickle of blood pouring from my side, it meant I was alive.

Did that mean, I proved myself to her?

I didn't even remember coming home, or reaching the flower, all I remembered was water and darkness and then....nothing.

It's like my memory stopped from there, I have no recollection of anything other than the flood.

I suppose I should be grateful that she didn't kill me, but I wasn't.

All I was left with, was a feeling of fear.

"LISSA, SCHOOL." Mom yelled from downstairs.

Mom!

I had the flower, all I had to do was crush it and feed it to her.

I slipped off the bed and threw on a cardigan, realizing that I was wearing exactly what I had worn yesterday to the garden.

I would have been more freaked out if I had woken up in different clothes, if I'm being completely honest.

I plucked a single petal from the flower and crushed it in my hand. Setting the flower on my bedside table I turned to leave the room.

"LISSA." She called again.

I walked out of my room and down the stairs, stopping Infront of the kitchen. Mom was getting ready to leave.

"Morning, your breakfast is In th-."

"Close your eyes." I said cutting her off.

"I beg your pardon." She asked grabbing her coat from the couch.

"I have a surprise, please just close your eyes mom."

"I don't have time for this Lissa I-,"she scolded.

"You don't have time for your only daughter?" I asked.

Low blow, I know. But it seemed to work, for her expression instantly changed into one of guilt.

"I'm sorry Lissa what is it." She asked dropping her coat.

"Close your eyes I made something for you." I said stepping closer, my hands hidden behind my back. She looked like she wanted to object but bit her lip and nodded.

She closed her eyes and I approached her prying her mouth open.

"Lissa wha-." But I shoved the petals in her mouth before she could move away.

"It's a special type of sweet, a...foreign delicacy." I lied, hoping to god that it actually was sweet.

She shook my hands off and slowly started chewing, a small smile making its way onto her lips.
