Amaryllis Roman

"Yes I definitely think a change of scenery would be helpful to her. Hawaii is a great choice to take some time off and relax." Dr Chen said smiling down at me and my mom.

"Take these prescribed pills twice a day with water, don't forget that they must be taken in between 4 hour intervals." He said holding the paper up to me.

I smiled in thanks.

"Thank you so much Dr. Chen."My mom said.

"It's no problem at all. Have a wonderful break Amaryllis, and if there's any problems or concerns, you have my number." I nodded just as me and mom rose from our seats and left his office

"Let's go mom." I said as I grabbed her arm leading her into the plain hallway of the hospital. We walked silently side by side as we maneuvered through the front office occasionally bumping into nurses and doctors all who were in a frenzy. Finally we reached the elevator on the bottom floor and entered. I pushed the lowest floor, which was the parking lot and stepped back.

Minutes ticked by, the awkward atmosphere between us suffocating me. I sighed leaning against the elevator doors in angst.

"Sweetheart when the door opens you'll fall right through, move back." Mom scolded. I ignored her words and closed my eyes, trying to drone out her voice.

At that same moment, what do you know, the door opened. I felt my feet slip from under me, because of the lack of support and went tumbling down onto the floor.

Pain exploded in my head, as it made contact with the stone cold floor.

"Oh miss are you alright?" A voice asked. I slowly rose grabbing a hold of my head, and looked up to see an elderly man with a cane peering down at me.

I grimaced.

"Just fine." I said.

He smirked unconvinced as he offered me his hand and pulled me up. I brushed off my jeans and entered the elevator again, only to see my mom hiding her smile.

I scoffed.

"Thanks mom." I said turning away from her. She chuckled just as the man hit the parking button aswell.

"Took me a while to find a space." The man said out loud.

"Yes, us aswell." Mom chimed in.

"Darn system." He scolded.

"I don't think it was that bad. I mean we were only looking for 10 minutes." I said truthfully.

"I was looking for 20." He said gruffly.

"It's a pain driving around just waiting for a spot to be vacant isn't it." He said in a tight voice.

"Um... Yea it is.." I said trailing off.

It was just a parking spot.

There was several minutes of silence that followed before a slow smile crept into his face. His gentle aorma now gone, he turned to me his cane uncomfortably close to my leg.

There was something off about him.

"Waiting in general is just a hassle." He said staring at me.

"I don't think so. It teaches patience and tolerance, right mom." I said turning back to look at her.

She nodded in agreement.

"I agree."

"Well I don't. Especially when you keep the wrong people waiting." His cane was now pressing down onto my kneecap. I sucked in a breath as the temperature plummeted, my body turning ice cold.
