Chapter Three

Jai's mum came in and gave him a kind of nod.

Jai said:

"Gem, I have to ask you a serious question."

My face fell and I became really worried.

"What is it?" I said, trying to mask my worriedness.

Jai started fidgeting.

"Well, to record my album, I um, I have to move houses."

He looked up at me sadly.

"Well, you won't have to move that far." I said trying to comfort him.

"Um, that's the thing, Gem. I have to move t-to Melbourne."

"Oh." Was all I could say. We're in Sydney at the moment, so Melbourne is kind of far away.

"Why do you have to move? There's heaps of recording studios here." I asked.

"I don't know why, but it's on the contract that was part of winning. The contract only runs for a year though, so I'll be able to move back, but it's just, well,yeah..."

He trailed off.

Jai's mum came back into the room again.

"Sorry love, could I just steal Jai for a moment?"

It wasn't really a question, but I said yes anyway. It gave me a minute to process what was happening.

Jai and I have had literally no time together over the past 10 weeks because he had to rehearse for the show. Now, as soon as he comes back, they're taking him from me again.

Jai walked back into the room smiling. What?! This was not a happy time.

"Ok, I've got good news!" He said.

"You're not going?" I asked hopefully.

"No, I'm still going." He said.

My head dropped into my hands. How is any of that 'good news'.

Jai leant over and tilted my face up so I was looking straight into his eyes.

"You're coming with me." He said quietly. Then he gave me a soft kiss.

Which made everything alright.
