"Oh." Is mums reaction to the news. I've told the story so many times, that I don't get choked up anymore, it just flows from my mouth like a prerecorded message.

"Gem... You should have told me earlier, skyped me or something." Mum says with an annoyed tone in her voice. This gets me a little riled up.

"Mum, Jai and I were trying to support eachother and take responsibility. We were moving out of the apartment and into Jai's aunts house. I had no time to contact you." I explain, trying to keep my voice calm.

"But you are MY child, not Alana's or Jai's aunts'. You should have told ME." She half yells.

"Well what were you going to do anyway?!" I half yell back.

"I would have flown you right back here!" She yells.

"And what about Jai? You would just leave him with his dying mother, wouldn't you? You don't really care about him at all!" I spit back.

"Jai is taking over your world! Before Melbourne you spent every moment together, then you moved in with him in Melbourne! Gem, you are fifteen not twenty-one! You need to live your life and stop obsessing over this boy! He is just a teenage crush!" She booms. My face drops.

"Just a teenage crush, hey? I LOVE him, mum." I say quietly, tears filling up my eyes. Mum wipes her face with her hands.

"No you don't, Gem. You don't know what love is." She replies.

"I do, because Jai and I have it." I reply before spinning on my heel and grabbing my bags. I walk up to my old room to see it hasn't changed. I hold back my tears, just until I'm out of mum's sight. I collapse into my bed and let the tears run free.

3 HOURS LATER

Opening my eyes, I look at the clock on my bedside table- it's 3pm.

I must've fallen asleep after storming in here. I slowly sit up and hop off my bed.

'I'll empty my suitcases' I think to myself. Walking around the bed, I see my suitcases, but not as they were before. I stood them up, now a few if them were lying down. I brush it off. Maybe they just fell over.

Opening them up, I realise that wasn't the case. All my clothes had been thrown in, and I folded them all when I packed them in. Which means that someone was looking for something in my bags, and that someone was mum. I suddenly scramble to find the things I need most. My phone is in the front pocket, same with my money. I open the front pocket to see that they are still there. My plane ticket is packed in with my two books I brought- The hunger games and Divergent. I pull out all my clothes to reveal the two books. My plane ticket is nowhere in sight.

"Mum!" I call, running out of my room and into the living room. Mum is sitting on a chair eating a biscuit.

"We're going to have a great time, Gem." Mum says as I come in.

"Mum did yo-"

"It's gonna be so great, you might want to stay." She says, not listening.

"I need my pla-"

"You will stay, even if you don't want to, you will be staying with me and not returning to Melbourne." She says angrily. I'm confused, what is she gonna do? Keep me hostage?

I watch as Mum reaches behind her and pulls something out of her bag. She holds the rectangular piece of paper between two fingers.

My plane ticket, which I need, so I can get back to Melbourne.

She brings up her other hand and grips the two ends of the paper. She slowly tears it in two.

I am trapped in Sydney.
