Chapter 41
Joe's room was on the third floor so we took an elevator. When I looked at my best friends I realized how supportive they were of me. I smiled looking down at the floor and Shayan squeezed my hand reassuringly.
A smile small played on his lips as he kissed the top of my head. I wanted to tell he had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. They were so black and shiny.
Because he was sick, he hadn't shaved his beard and his curls were almost a nest.
He cocked an eyebrow at me giving me that 'I'm hot I know' look.
"Don't be so full of yourself," I mouthed the words making him grin at that.
The elevator doors opened with a 'ting' sound and we stepped out. Roy was standing near the elevator waiting for us. Shayan had told me that he'd be there.
He gave me a small nod before he turned around, leading the way to Joe's room. It was a long walk and I realized how this hospital was almost a maze. We took so many turns and still his room was nowhere to be seen.
We passed the ICU section and my heart sunk when I saw a family, especially a middle-aged woman crying and her body was shaking. A young girl around my age held that woman by her shoulders and couldn't stop crying herself. Two nurses and a doctor stood there asking them to sit down.
"My son!" She shouted crying harder and we stopped, controlling the tears ourselves. It reminded me what the mothers in Syria and Palestine went through when their children died in the bombings.
I remember seeing the videos and my heart couldn't take it. May God have mercy and help them against those heartless animals. I think it's wrong to even call them animals. Animals are better than them.
We started walking and my tears couldn't stop flowing.
We finally entered the corridor that Joe's room was in.
For every step I took towards his room, my eyes were collecting tears but I blinked them all away.
As soon as I entered the floor, my eyes landed on a girl.
I froze in my steps when I saw her peeking through the small glass hole on his door.
Why was she here?
I did not know how to react.
"What in the world... is she doing here?" Ahmed muttered looking at her equally surprised. Shayan looked like he knew something.
Why in the world would Victoria James, the popular half-French girl would stand there outside Joe's room, dressed in a salwar-kameez?
"Victoria!" I gasped, grabbing her attention. She looked like she expected me there.
"Why is she here?" I asked Roy.
He bit his lip looking down. He looked guilty?
What did he do now?
What did Joe do now?
Why is Victoria involved?
And above all, what happened to her face? Where is her make-up?!!
I know it was a very serious situation but my brain was questioning all weird things.
She was standing next to the door holding the kid in her arms. The same kid who came to hospital that day.
