Chapter 25
"Woah, you totally eat like a buffalo don't you?" shouted Ahmed, as he pointed his accusing finger at me with an amused expression on his face and I winked at him giving him a toothy grin.
It was 9:30pm when Hameed and I were having our old pani puri showdown. Yeah, we totally decided to skip dinner. The boys spent the whole day sleeping because none of them slept well in the car last night except me, 'cause I totally woke up the next day.
Shayan wasn't feeling sick anymore. He was alright and I was kind of relieved.
The pani puri showdown was old for us but not for the others who were watching us keenly swallow a massive puri and gulp spoonfuls of pani down our throats.
I have high tolerance for spice whereas Hameed, he just didn't want his manly ego get hurt.
When I challenged him in front of the boys, I knew he wouldn't back down.
We were in our living room. Pushing the sofa and all the furniture aside, the boys were seated down; in front of us in a semi-circle and we; meaning Hameed and I sat facing them, placing the pani puri in the centre.
The boys, of course were cheering us like maniacs, totally not taking sides. Oh how I wish it was true. They were all chanting Hameed's name all along.
"Oh my god! Oh my god! That's the twentieth puri!" D exclaimed, his lips formed into an O shape and his eyes shot up seeing me fill another puri with a spoonful of pani.
I heard loud cheers erupting from Seb and Ahmed as I gulped another puri down. Glancing around, my eyes caught Shayan's who was - oh my poor boy, stuck with my mom's questions. I knew she was digging the gossip out of him.
Asking him about Ryan, Sakeena, where Ryan stayed, why he stayed, if he had a secret girlfriend and she was even asking him about Sakeena's father-in-law's uncle side.
I felt like banging my fists on the floor and laugh like a retarded case at that point but I was in middle of the competition.
But poor boy Shayan was truly patient with my mom.
Slow clap to his bravery and patience!
"Just give up already bhai!" I teased cocking an eyebrow at Hameed whose face was burning red and I could imagine smoke blurting out of his ears because of the spice.
The score now was 21-14. Of course I am winning.
"I-I give up." said Hameed, finally giving up and getting up to run for water.
I could see eyes widen at me in amusement, and I matched their stares smirking at them.
I leaned to take another puri and shoved it inside my mouth, muttering "Ammasam.."
Well, I was about to say I'm awesome. They cracked up looking at me and I laughed a loud laugh - if that even made sense.
Shayan was finally out of my mom's 'who wants to be a millionaire' questions and Hameed came back with puffy eyes, settling himself next to D.
I smirked at him and he gave me a 'you-are-so-dead' look. I stuck my tongue at him, teasingly and he grinned back. There it is. Hameed never gets angry on me. This is how he is. Sweet.
"Heyy let's all watch a movie!" I suggested excitedly clapping my hands once.
There were all kinds of replies. "Movie?" "okay" "Yeah let's do that." "How about no?"
The last reply was from Ahmed and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"How about a game?" Hameed spoke raising his eyebrow at me, smiling like a Cheshire cat.
