Were Meant To Be

Prompt from WriteYourFeelings- Zayn and Niall were married for years but when Liam came along they split up, Niall left Bradford and is struggling in life with money then they met again after a year and Zayn wants him back but Niall is being stubborn and keeps saying the past is the past but is breaking inside-Fluff at the end.

Zayn’s Pov:

Jealousy can cause alot of problems, It can cause arguments, It can cause two people to drift apart, Sometimes it can even ruin the great things you have. Niall was the love of the love of my life, He meant everything to me and I never wanted to lose him, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, So I proposed and we got married, He made me the happiest person alive. There was only one problem with our relationship, I was the problem, Because I loved Niall so much I was afraid of losing him, That why when his new friend Liam came along my jealousy took over. Niall and Liam were close and they were always spending time together, Niall would laugh happily around him and they’d always be hugging eachother tightly, I withstanded it for as long as I could until finally I snapped. I confronted Niall and we ended up getting in a massive row that resulted in Niall walking out and us getting a divorce, Once the divorce came through Niall moved out of Bradford and left me all alone. Everyday I regretted what I done, I regretted getting jealous and losing my temper, I regretted letting Niall just leave my life, Everyone was telling me what a massive mistake I’d made and deep down I knew they were right.

A year has passed and the days have only gotten harder, Everyday I miss Niall, I miss his voice, His laugh, His hugs, The way he loved me more than anybody else ever has. There has been nobody else since Niall left, I haven’t been able to move on from him, As stupid as it sounds nobody in this world compares to him. Were not in contact anymore, When Niall left Bradofrd he must have changed his number and nobody would give it to me. Harry and Louis are still in contact with him, From what they’ve told me he’s doing great and he’s happy, He’s moved on with his life, I’m happy for him but I can’t help but wish it was me who was still making him happy. Today was the day I was waiting for, But also the day I was dreading the most, Niall and I would be reunited, One of our old school friends is marrying his partner and he’s invited all of us to the engagement party, Louis told me Niall would be there I was excited to see him but at the same time I didn’t know what would happen. 

“Here you look like you could do with it” Louis stated as he handed me a cup of drink, I smiled gratefully before downing the whole thing.

“You think he’ll come?” I asked.

“He said he was, He’s probably running late mate” Louis said, I sighed before nodding.

“Niall’s here” Harry stated as he walked over to us, Suddenly my heart froze, I followed the direction Harry was pointing in and sure enough Niall walked in, Still to this day his beauty knocks the wind straight out of me. 

“Niall mate over here” Harry shouted, Niall looked up before smiling warmly, It was then that I noticed the person he came with, Liam. I inhaled deeply as they made there way over to us.

“Nialler how you doing mate?” Louis asked as he pulled Niall into a hug.

“All good” Niall replied as he hugged Harry, He didn’t sound to convincing to me.

“Alright Zayn” Liam said as he gave me a quick hug, I nodded my head.

“Yeah man you?” I replied, Liam nodded. “Listen mate I’m sorry for freaking out over your friendship with Ni” I said, Liam shook his head.

“Forget about it, You loved him” Liam stated, I then came face to face with Niall.

“Ni” I said.

“Zayn” He replied we then had a quick hug.

“Can we talk?” I asked, Niall hesitated for a moment before nodding his head, Things would be awkward I knew that but we need to talk, Niall and I slowly made our way away from the crowd and outside so we were away from everyone. “So how have you been? Where did you go when you left Bradford?” I questioned.

“Been alright, Went home for a while worked with my dad then I moved out to London that’s where I’m at now, You” Niall replied.

“Still in Bradford, I got a job teaching art classes the pay isin’t much but it gets me by” I said, Niall nodded his head. “Look Ni I’m just gonna cut straight to the point, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for how things ended with us, I’m sorry for being jealous, I just didn’t wanna lose you to someone better” I exclaimed, Niall sighed.

“Zayn forget it the past is the past” Niall said.

“But I don’t wanna forget the past Ni, The past is where we fell inlove and I made loads of mistakes back then and I’ve learnt from them, Ni I want us to get back together” I stated, Niall shook his head.

“We can’t” Niall mumbled.

“Why? Give me one good reason why?” I questioned, Niall looked at me with a helpless look in his eyes. “Give me one reason Niall and I’ll give you a thousand reasons why we should” I stated.

“Because we need to move on we can’t keep living in the past Zayn, How are we meant to move on when we can’t let go of the past?” Niall questioned.

“I don’t wanna move on and I don’t wanna let go, Niall we have to much history together to just throw away, I love you and I know you love me the love we had won’t just disappear it’s always gonna be there, If your suffering just as much as I am please tell me Niall, I was an idiot and because of it I lost you, I’ve learnt from my mistakes and I want another chance, Niall I know you better then anybody else does and I can in your eyes that something isin’t right” I exclaimed, Niall sighed before looking away from me.

“You don’t understand” Niall whispered.

“I do understand, Something isin’t right with you Niall nobody else can see it but I can” I stated, Niall shook his head before going to walk away, I grabbed hold of his hand. “Niall please” I chocked out, Niall looked me directly in the eyes.

“You were everything I had, You still are, When I left Bradford I had nothing, I had no job, No money, No where to go, I’ve been struggling Zayn, I barely have any money and the money I do have goes on bills and rent for my cheap flat that has so many things wrong with it I can’t even list them! Everyday all I wanted was to turn to you, But I couldn’t, I couldn’t do it Zayn” Niall cried out, Tears filled my eyes.

“I’m sorry, Niall I’m sorry for everything just give me a chance, Please Niall one more chance I won’t fuck up again, I’ll make everything right, All the problems we can get through them together” I assured him, Niall looked me directly in the eyes as if searching for any hint of a lie, When he saw nothing he collapsed straight into my open arms, A rush of something I hadn’t felt in a long time came over me.

“There’s no guarantee we’ll work this time” Niall mumbled, I held him closer to me before placing a kiss to his head.

“There’s no guarantee anything will work, It’ll only work if we try and I’m willing to try Ni, I was an idiot and because of it I lost you” I exclaimed.

“I never stopped you know, Loving you I mean” Niall whispered, I looked down at him. “I’ve always believed that when somethings broken there’s no point fixing it, Because when you do it’ll never be the same again, But sometimes you can take the risk and fix it and it’ll be better then before” Niall said. “You and I we’ll never be the same but maybe we can be better” Niall stated, I smiled as I slowly ran my thumb across his cheek.

 “I love you Ni” I said, Niall smiled before slowly leaning up and kissing me gently, He didn’t say it back but he didn’t need to because I already knew, Niall and I were meant to be together, We always have.
